deferred - OOS Mechanical Engineering. Kind of baffled to be honest.
Stats?
deferred oos pre nursing
deferred Health Information Management and Systems, program only takes 32 students annually. Should he send a letter of continued interest, no updated scores to send and mid year grades won’t help as they are along the lines of his transcript sent with application.
If OSU is a top school for him, then absolutely. Demonstrated and continued interest can only work in his favor. Remember that deferred does not equal rejected. It is only a delay and not a final decision. I understand that it is disappointing, but it is not the end of the road.
Have faith. My older son was deferred and then waitlisted at his top school - he is now in the middle of his junior year there.
4.5 GPA in honors, nominations to West Point, Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, 4 year Navy ROTC scholarship for OSU. SAT is 1330 which is lower than hoped, but still average or higher…maybe that was the weak link.
still waiting to hear back

My daughter was deferred too - OOS, business. 3.94 unweighted, lots of APs, great ECs and recommendations. She was born in Columbus and is a Buckeye to the core. She submitted test optional after SATs were cancelled three times in a row. It feels like they didn’t have enough time to read all the apps so they just deferred in bulk. My daughter isn’t going to wait around for them to decide though. They were in contention in early December but she has received some amazing acceptances in the last month and since she isn’t feeling the love from OSU, she will probably just withdraw her app. Given the numbers of applicants, I doubt they care, but the deferral game for EA is ridiculous.
@Shannon_Stockton so sorry. It’s so hard. My daughter is still showing in evaluation so we are trying to be patient but it does seem like these kids in the second wave are being held to a higher standard. We are going through the same feelings with another university which is her first choice and accepted her but not a penny of merit (OOS). love the school that loves you back right?
It is legitimately the most stressful process. I’m so sorry she was deferred, but hope she loves where she ends up!
Safe to say that if you haven’t heard back yet… chances are better?
Crossing my fingers and waiting some short of call from my son who is still waiting to get any updates on his portal !!!
Daughter was accepted. Business, OOS, 3.98 GPA, TO, many AP’s and honors, deep business EC’s and unique HS curriculum where she and teammates launched a business and pitched to investors. She was accepted direct entry to a number of other schools with one of them clearly being her #1, so likely won’t choose OSU.
It seems, despite public stances on test optional policies, many schools, like OSU, continue to favor the kids with high SAT/ACT scores.
I don’t think so at all. I know more kids who have gotten in as TO this year than ones who have sent them. Two years ago my son was deferred with a 1450 and got in the RD round. You can’t make assumptions by the few people writing on college confidential.
DS (International) accepted to CS! We are SAT optional so such a relief to get in.
Do they post in waves? Deferred, accepted, etc.
Unfortunately rejected he is disappointed but wasn’t his first choice he has already been accepted to 2 schools that are top of his list for lacrosse which he wants to continue plus there are more to come … good luck everyone
