100% agree! My son wanted Smeal at Penn State and was only accepted to their 2+2 program (satellite campus for 2 years then University Park campus for 2). He was beyond disappointed. We had all banked on him getting in based on his stats which are very good but so are everyone else’s applying there and it’s a crap shoot. It all is. He did get into Fisher at OSU and we are very much considering going. I hope it isn’t a disappointment. I’m nervous about the size and exactly what you said about not being able to get to know your professors and just being a number even in your major. Plus the city being right there with way overpriced housing etc… and being 9 hours from home. It’s all kind of a lot so just don’t know about the fit. I guess you don’t know if you’re going to love it or hate it until you’re there in it.
Fisher has its own admitted students days. If you are able to attend one, it might help with the decision. When we went last spring, the program and the students in it were really impressive, but there were factors that made it obvious it wasn’t a good fit for my daughter.
My daughter has had a great experience at Fisher so far. The key is to get involved. Business fraternities, Business scholar programs etc, clubs etc. In her business fraternity, she has done multiple “coffee chats” with current students about all the opportunities, classes etc. learning first hand. So much is up to the student at OSU. They have to take the initiative to thrive for sure. Good luck to your student but we are off to a great start but encourage involvement.

Hi, my son was accepted both at Penn State (Smeal) and Fisher. Why does your son prefer Smeal? My son still hasn’t made decision yet.

Absolutely loved the campus and the finance program is stellar there. It’s also 5 hours away as opposed to OSU which is 9. They are ranked close with Smeal just ahead of OSU so honestly I don’t think one school is necessarily better than the other but he just fell in love with the whole school.

Does Ohio state review applications blind to major. As in if I was admitted to the school as a whole but not to my specific major would I still be offered entry?

Apologies if this has been asked, but couldn’t find an answer in this thread. My son was accepted in the later EA (Jan 20). Have National Buckeye Scholarships come out for those accepted on December 9? What about those who were accepted last week?
My DS also got in Jan 20 and was sent an email to apply to ScholarshipUniverse application. Does everyone get this invite or does it mean anything special that he has a chance on getting scholarship?

My son got in Dec and has not heard on scholarships. Does anyone know if you have to log into that scholarship portal to get a scholarship? There are so many things that all these colleges (and especially OSU) are asking kids to sign up for and my kid isn’t so great at keeping up with all of that!

There are merit scholarships that your student will be considered for if they applied to OSU by 11/1 (National Buckeye for OOS and Maximus/Provost/Trustee). My older daughter heard in early February in 2014. Looking back at last year’s thread, it looks like students received scholarship information via mail starting 2/10.
