Ohio State University Early Action For Fall 2023 Admission

My son was applying to the College of Engineering. I did find this article which states the decision will come by Jan 31.
I’m not sure what OSU cares about, but in addition to the grades 4.0UW he will have 2 associate degrees when he graduates high school, one in pre-engineering. And he plays all the sports, etc. Instate.

How is it looking for everyone?

Thinking good thoughts for those waiting. For those who have been theough this, how quickly after acceptance by OSU does the Buckeye scholarship come? Thank you!

Daughter just checked. Accepted. Engineering. OOS (Texas) UW 3.97. Rank top 12%. Lots of EC but little leadership. Talked a lot to area OSU recruiters here. Max APs and DC for her HS. Heavy STEM.

Denied OOS but our daughter had already committed to another school anyways. Now I can go back to hating Ohio State. Glad I dodged that bullet.

Hilarious  thankfully my son wasn’t set on OSU so the denied didn’t phase him …

Based on this info, how do we know how many new students they have space for the different majors? My dd was deferred so just picking a random area of architecture, if 885 applied and 322 were admitted, is there still space for more if all accepted?

Curious what the rejection rates are as opposed to deferred

I am not sure how to find out how much space they have in each major, but if you want to see how many total students were admitted last year in each category for Autumn semester entry, you can look at last year’s final report, September 2022:

I don’t think there is any way to determine that from these reports.

Comparing this year’s to last year’s if they accept the same amount. There’s only 5k more spots. So acceptance chances go way down for the final round. Approximately 20k first round, 10k second, 5k the last. Plus the paid deposits are way up from last year, so the may accept less.

The average college-bound student applied to 7 schools in 2021. Could be higher with the increased ease of the common App. They can only attend one school. Things haven’t even started to shake out.

That is our big question as well, Also, she applied to all available through the scholarship portal, if she won one, do those come back at the same time?

Great info. Totally forgot about this chart. I agree with the other poster, there are only about 5k spaces left. My dd has moved on from OSU since she got deferred but really did hope she got in. Good luck to all those still waiting.

When are Morrill scholarships usually awarded?

I think it my come down to yield (what percentage of kids enroll vs. were accepted)…In 2021 it was ~28%, 2022 it was ~26%. I have to believe this year would be 24% or lower with everyone apply to so many schools. If the yield estimation by the OSU team is 24%, then they will need to send out about 37,500 total acceptances (8k more) to reach 9,000 freshman class. If the yield expected is 22% then they would need ~41,000 acceptances (11k more) to rech the 9k. I personally have no clue just know yields have been trending lower.
