I was walking by the guidance office in my HS and saw a poster for this. The website is not excellent- but you could get more info. Looks like you have to be from Ohio to participate. I did not see participating schools on website (did not look really hard) but on poster noticed CCM, Otterbein, Wright State, and Kent State (among others)
This is the type of unified where you audition for all schools at once and then go to individual callbacks. Pretty sure you do not need to apply to the colleges first.
I have also seen this around and it seems like a good opportunity, however if you are going for a particular school, be sure to check with them to make sure they will actually be in attendance as I don’t think they udpated the list from last year. When I visited Wright State I asked the head of MT if Wright State would be going to Ohio Unifieds again and he said no, yet they are still on the list. Just a word of warning
Never mind I got the list of schools so far if anyone’s interested. Has anyone attended this previously and if so is it mainly a prescreen? Then an invite to audition on campus? Otterbein is there but they prescreen so I’m thinking that it must be. Also wright state is listed as being there but there’s no dance call in this audition situation so I’m thinking again a prescreen situation? @mom4bwayboy did you guys go ?
@theaterwork, it is still a relatively new unified audition. It seems to have changed every year over the last 3 years. My S’s audition year (2015), we know 2 people accepted to Ohio Northern from there. I have a friend interested in attending this year. Can you provide either here or via PM any info you have about who will attend and who is conducting final auditions? TIA!
@theaterwork - S never went to these unifieds and we didn’t know anyone who did attend. In the past - if I remember right - WSU only did portfolio reviews for the tech/design majors. They MAY have done Acting auditions, but I’m pretty sure they did not do MT auditions. Perhaps this has changed. I believe CCM was also present - but again, only for tech/design majors, and perhaps Acting. I believe you could audition (portfolio review) for the programs present, even if you had not applied to all the schools, then if the program was interested, you could apply to the school afterwards - knowing that scholarship headlines may have passed. I think the original intention was to give Ohio HS students a chance to audition for Ohio programs in a low-cost venue - giving access to students who otherwise would not have the chance. The mission may have morphed a bit over the last few years.
Thanks @mom4bwayboy . I got some info from the guy in charge. We’ve decided not to go as otterbein is the only school there that my D would be interested in and it’s just fulfilling their prescreen. But if you still want to prescreen with them this would be your last chance as they aren’t taking anymore prescreens otherwise.
Wright state will be there but not sure in what capacity. We already have Jan audition scheduled with them B-)
My D went into to pretty blind this year but it was well-run, and seems to be growing substantially. They said there were over 60 kids this year, versus 20-some last year. Not sure if that was MT or overall. There were between 16-18 schools there, including Otterbein, Kent, Ohio Northern, Wright State, and others. It did serve as the prescreen, at least for the schools for which my D got called back. The callbacks were organized kind of like a college fair, with each school having a table, and if a student got a callback they went to talk to the auditors from that school, and during that conversation they let them know next steps, and whether they were being offered a scholarship. It was overall a good experience for her. I’d recommend it to other Ohio residents, just be aware it does not take the place of scheduling full auditions.
