I am a girl who played rugby at Marist College my freshman year. The school was too preppy and too small for me. I am on the physical therapy track and need to find out which school I’d be happier transferring to. If I can have the best descriptions of each school (local area, academics, campus, rugby team if possible, how the students are, etc. --everything you can think of) please help me out thanks!!
also, if you know about how easy they make it for getting a job right after college that would be cool too
Do you live in NY? have you check SUNY oswego?
I don’t know about Ohio University, but I do know of WVU from friends who have went there. I’m not sure how familiar you are with it, but it’s a large university and not preppy by any means. Kind of in the middle of nowhere, but everyone says the college town is very nice. It’s definitely known as a party school, but every college is what you make of it. I’m unsure whether or not there’s a rugby team, but I imagine that athletics are pretty popular and competitive there. There’s a real range of students there, from those who were average in high school to those around the top of their class, so you could fit into a niche anywhere in between.
It’s definitely a far cry from Marist, but if you’re truly unhappy there and want a big, fairly football-centric school in a nice college town, I’d look into it.
Ohio University is a mid sized public university. It too is definitely not preppy. Greek involvement is around 10%, pretty low for a college town type of university. Sports are enjoyed at OU but do not dominate the campus atmosphere. The campus is traditionally beautiful, red brick buildings, rather colonial in style, surrounded by Appalachian foothills. The area around Athens is poor, however, there is a very strong arts culture both performing and folk arts. Like WV it is known as kind of a party town, however, unlike other universities it’s not tied as much to Greek life. A lot of that reputation comes from two large parties, it’s Halloween Party and something called Palmer Fest. I know they have women’s Rugby but beyond that I can’t help you. Academically, it’s a step ahead of most of Ohio’s other publics, a step below such schools as Miami of Ohio, Ohio State and to a lesser degree U of Cincinnati. They have the oldest PT school in Ohio and it is well ranked, I believe second in the state only to OSU. One thing that I hear quite a bit about Ohio U is that students enjoy their experience there.
The key to PT is getting into a DPT program, graduating, and passing the exam. From what I understand getting a PT job is not difficult after that. It looks like nearly every PT program indicates a 100% placement.
@rugby07 Are you instate for either school? If not, will your parents pay the OOS costs?
