<p>Hey Yall, this is my first post so I need your honest input...</p>

Omaha, NE
Junior in class of '06</p>

<p>SAT: 1250
ACT: 29
(will retake both in June)</p>

<p>GPA Weighted: 4.114
GPA unweighted: 4.0
Class Rank: 3/461</p>

<p>APs - Junior - Chem, Stats, Euro ... Senior - English, Calc BC, Amer, Bio</p>

<p>EC's -
Football 9-12 2 letters
Track 10-12
NHS 11-12 Will be president
DECA 11 - 12 will be VP
FCA 9 - 12 leadership council 2 years
Student Ambassador 9-12
30hrs a week selling Computers at Best Buy 2 years
Webmaster for Small Business Website 3 years
40 hours volunteering at Habitat for Humanity
20 Volunteer Hours through NHS
Weekly Church Usher 9 - 12</p>

<p>Awards - (not much here)
Academic letter (3)
Outstanding Student - 9th and on ballot this year (hopefully 11th)</p>

<p>What I really need to know is if I could make it at:</p>

<p>Washington U in St. Louis
USC
Boston College
Wisc- Madison
Mich - Ann Arbor
Penn</p>

<p>dream school: Stanford</p>

<p>I Have visted them all, interviews at some, looking for business or Med.
As you can see I am not the greatest test-taker, I often run out of time as I am very meticulous.</p>

<p>Thanks for the input, tell me what I need to do, how to get good recs, etc.

<p>I think everyone with high GPA and low scores needs to read the comments by the author of A is for Admissions on the parents board. The thrread is something close to: Who has read A is for Admissions?</p>

<p>Thanks for the replies, but how do you justify Wisconsin and Michigan as Reaches when their ACT averages are around 27?</p>

<p>I couldn't bear to think of myself going to Nebraska-Lincoln...</p>

UMich for business is quasi-ivy league
Good luck though...take the SAT's again-mine are near yours (1260, 1860 composite) and I hope to break 2000 with studying and theres no reason why you can't too. :)</p>

<p>Thanks wilmington, sometimes I feel a little inadequate while reading these boards due to the mass amounts of Asians and Indians with the 1500's.</p>

<p>Does anyone think that it's not impossible for someone to just be a lousy test taker?</p>

<p>Does anyone else have an opinion on visits and interviews, I would like to think that my interviews went pretty well...</p>

The only suggeston i can give you is try to retake SATs(which i think you will)

<p>Basically. a high GPA and low test scores tell a college this: u r a hard worker but not too bright. Selective colleges like all the ones on ur list dont like that because they feel that u wont add anything to their campus community. However, ur xtra curriculars might help u on that. Good luck</p>

<p>You are fine at Wisconsin for sure (I think). I'd be amazed if they turned you down w/ that rank.</p>

<p>Might want to add some very good liberal arts schools that have strong pre-med and economic programs like Holy Cross or Colgate. BC is over-rated.</p>

<p>I think you're in at them all, except Penn and WashU. I think you'd atleast get waitlisted @ WashU, but you need a higher ACT/SAT</p>

<p>Chanman, the thread is here on CC on the parent's board. What Hernandez, a former Dartmouth adcom said yesterday on the thread, is that high rank with low scores is "rejected every time."</p>

<p>Yes, top colleges will not give you a break for being a lousy test taker. What you need to understand is that with the right help, you may be able to really improve your test taking skills. If you can afford it, seek really top one-on-one help. If you can't, do everything cheap in your area and keep retaking the on line tests.</p>

<p>A 1250 without a serious hook has no chance at Stanford or any ivy. Focus on improving the score.</p>

<p>Yeah, that's what I thought, I took those test both for the first time with out studying, I think I can do a much better job on them.</p>

<p>What you yall think would be an acceptable level for these tests?</p>

<p>A 2200 on the new SAT would make you a contender.</p>
