Ok so since I got into obie, my family has been asking me "so how the **** are we going to pay for your education at this so called 'hippie school'?" SO yea, obies expensive, and since my dad is retarded he decided to never send in the FASFA or any other financial aid documents. So basically obie told us, its knida late.....
a month later I realized that my guidance office did not send out letters to my other colleges that i wont need to hear their responses (which is what they are supposed to do at my high school). So of course one of the schools I applied to decided to give me free tuition, free room +board AND free laptop (hunter college, only New Yorkers will know because its a city school). So now my parents are pushing me to go there, which is something I know I shouldn't give into. But I don't know what to do now. Do i go for Awesome oberlin and live in loans for the rest of my life, or do i go to the city school for free? Help!

well if you got in ED, you're kind of committed to attending. otherwise, you still have a choice

also, it's not too late to look for scholarships. and financial aid forms are turned in every year, so future aid is possible. same with scholarships. just because you didn't get a lot of aid freshman year doesn't mean you're stuck with that for the rest of the 4 years.

^^^ same
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that you applied ED to oberlin, so you are obligated to go there. Otherwise, there would be no point of early decision if you could still go anywhere else. Unless it's impossible for you to pay for Oberlin I don't think you can get out of it. If you really are serious about going to Hunter instead call up Oberlin and see what you can do.

oh yea and also I know you don't want to hear this but it's good that you learned now that you shouldn't rely on your school to do stuff for you. You should always double check everything. If I didn't do that nothing would ever get done

wow, i never thought someone would be in that kinda predicament lol.

I hope you're not comparing CUNY to Oberlin cuz Oberlin is 1000000x better....the loans'll be worth it in the long run - believe me.
And waht they said above is true too because you have to reapply for financial aid anyway every year -

DOnt give in to the pressure! Go to Obie!!! =P

yea, go for oberlin and reapply for fin. aid sophomore year

I think that, legally, a person can get out of a (normally binding) ED decision if there is a lack of financial aid.

However, the fact that you didn't send in your FAFSA means that they (Oberlin) wasn't even aware that you needed/wanted a financial aid package.

So I think that you are kind of, pretty much stuck. I'd talk to the admission dept. Send them an e-mail or something explaining the situation. You don't have much to bargain with (you did apply ED and are therefore bound to go), but they may be nice.

They seemed nice when I went for my interview anyway.
