I've only purchased three SAT books for myself:

The Blue Book
10 Real SATs, third edition
Gruber's New SAT

However, my school library decided this week to finally update their collection of SAT resources to the new SAT (It's taken quite a while) and they gave away all the old stuff for free. How many of these books are still usuable/worth working through? (They are all for the old SAT) :

Barrons - How To Prepare For The SAT I 21st edition
Barrons - Math Workbook for the SAT I
10 Real SATs - 2nd edition
Barrons - Verbal Workbook for the SAT I

The 10 Real SATs you have are from the old test I believe, CB only has 2 tests up you can get on the Online Course. All of the other ones have the old analogies, do not involve algebra 2, and do not have writing. If it were me I wouldn't use them, it's prepping for the wrong test. Xiggi says to, I say not to but whatever.

Darn. I was so excited when I saw all the free books, that I didn't even think about how out-dated they would be. Oh well, I guess I'll have to buy some more books later. Thanks Calculus for the comments!

I do not see why the 10real SAT's -2nd edition would be bad, they are still helping you by having you go over math and english, just as reading out of a textbook would probably help.

One thing I find funny is that the 3 books i have ordered were:

The official SAT study Guide
10 Real SATs - third edition
Gruber's New SAT - 10th edition

I haven't got the 10realSAT's in the mail, but I am sure it will help.
The Gruber's is long, but if you look threw it, it has alot of helpful material, especially the math stuff, even though thats by best subject.

Isn't there a lot of overlap between the 2nd and 3rd editions of 10 Reals?

Anyways, the old tests helped me a lot. The only algebra 2 skills you need for the new SAT (based on blue book) are a basic understanding of functions and how to transform them. If you don't want to work out the analogies, you could at least learn the words in the answer choices.

However, only do this if you're finished with the blue book.

Right now I'm only halfway through the blue book, and I haven't even looked at the 10 Real SATs'. My first SAT taking will be next May or June, so I was afraid that I would run out of material to go over. Maybe I'll keep the free books just in case. Thanks for all the help!

Check the publication dates on them. But anyway, your public library ought to have some of the newer books...it's worth checking anyway. But new books are cheap enough on Amazon or Ebay that I'd still spend the money to get new ones rather than use really old ones from the old test.

Well, I agree to some extent, but I just like working with the what is actually on the test. There are plenty of books for <=$20 that he could buy that are written about the new test.
