Hi!
I’m a highschool senior and I’m just trying to narrow down my applications and figure out a couple more schools I really want to go to. I sparked an interest in Ole Miss a couple months ago and I love the traditions, the history and how far the school has come in general. This all sounds attractive but I only have one concern, I’m black. I know that not everyone is racist but I have heard terrible stories of the way black students get treated (vandalizing the African American statue, threats, etc.) I just wanted anyone’s opinion on how welcoming ole miss is to black students. I have heard plenty of great stories too but they all seemed sugar coated or unrealistic. Please give me the honest truth:)
It is a great environment for students. My son is a junior and has seen no racial tension. The media will latch onto any story that may suggest there is a problem. There are problems at any college these days. You will love Oxford and the welcoming environment at Ole Miss.
@ItsRenn Currently this year, the Ole Miss student body president is black… the Miss University is black and the Miss Ole Miss is black. I say this to you to say that black students are leaders on campus and have plenty of opportunities to be engaged in campus life and activities. As stated above, there are ignorant people at all institutions. I encourage you to visit the campus so you can get a sense of it for yourself before making a decision. Best wishes!
