<p>Students in Honors at Ole Miss are privy to all of the things you mentioned. There’s an Honors LLC, priority registration, classes of 15-20 students as well as a dedicated building with 24/7 access. They also have free printing, opportunities for fellowships that support study abroad and internships.</p>

<p>I think it does a very good job describing the Honors College. My daughters had a fantastic experience. The Honors College is there to support the students while they reach for their goals.</p>

<p>How many freshman students typically participate in the Honors College? How big is the program?</p>
<p>My understanding is that they accept around 320 students per year. I <em>think</em> around 1,100 or apply??? Admission into the Honors College is based on an application - not solely one’s stats.</p>
<p>Do you know if Ole Miss has any sort of Scholars Day hosted by the Honors College? We need to go tour and have been waiting for something like that.</p>
<p>I’m sure collegeguider will be able to give you information on a planned Scholars Day. But do not hesitate to call the HC. You will find them most helpful. One more point. Do not hesitate to schedule a tour with the HC on your own. Many find that individually planned tours are more personal. All the best.</p>

<p>We did a personalized tour back in September. My ds met with someone from the Honors College as well as two people from the program he is interested in. He also attended a class. They outlined a very nice day for him!</p>
<p>We had a personalized tour day set up for us in October and it was really fabulous. We started with the information session, then had a personal tour guide of campus and then toured the Center for Manufacturing Excellence. This was followed by a dorm tour, a personalized visit with the Dept. of Engineering and ended with a 1 on 1 session at the Honors college. We were so impressed with the Honors College there. There really do seem to make the students seem special. We were definitely most impressed with their Honors program over the 10 others we have visited! It is a shame that their computer system is down during winter break, though!</p>
<p>There was a Scholars Day back in the fall. As others have mentioned, the Honors College and Office of Admissions would be happy to coordinate a specialized campus visit tailored to your student’s particular interests. Having the chance to sit in on a class, meet the Honors Dean, a department chair and other students and staff would likely be more beneficial to you. Scholars Day is a wonderful event, though.</p>
<p>@MidwesternHeart - glad to know that you enjoyed your visit. Students can begin to work on essays and resume information while the system is down. Then, they can be prepared to apply as soon as things are up and running again!</p>

<p>Red, when you visit, have the student (is that you?) sit in on one of the freshman honors seminars. That sealed the Ole Miss deal for my son.</p>
<p>I remember he had three great benefits Freshman year because of the honors program
- No “year of Freshman English” - instead, a great Freshman honors seminar, small classes, good discussions, great professors
- Early registration for classes - get good sections of the classes you want at good times, have the opportunity to take honors sections of classes
- Freshman Ventures - good financial support from the honors program to take an interesting group trip. There’s a theme every year. He and four others had a wonderful trip, figuring out their flights and agenda themselves. They researched a topic they were interested in and gave a Powerpoint on it later. This was one of his favorite Ole Miss experiences thus far.</p>
<p>My son and husband will be visiting Ole Miss in a week, and they are really looking forward to seeing the campus and all that the school can offer. Ole Miss gave my son a nice merit deal. He’s also hoping for some additional scholarship money from the Honors College so he will not need to take out many loans.</p>
<p>Red, definitely check in with collegeguider to see what is happening during the dates you are considering. Depending on the areas your student is interested in, it may have an impact on availability of the professors. However, Ole Miss is amazing in their ability to customize visits. <p>seekingknowledge: Thanks for the tip. Right now, my son and husband are taking a tour and hitting the Honors College. I know my son will want to check out the athletic facilities and of course, the food and a dorm. It will be interesting what he thinks of the school. Usually, I take him on the visits, and often I see or hear things that he doesn’t, and that becomes a point of discussion. But, alas, it is the final week of the first semester at our school, and I am working. So my husband gets to do the college tour thing. He’s only done one previous one with this son. He did just two with the older son. I’ll arm him with a list of questions that I have.</p>
<p>I’d suggest visiting when classes are back in session. It gives you a better sense of campus life and what it’s like to walk around campus during the most important times. Visiting specific groups like the Honors College or your student’s academic area of interest. is very important.</p>
<p>Can anyone give me an idea of the GPA and test scores ( and any other criteria) needed to be accepted in the honors program at Ole Miss? My son is graduating in 2015. thank You!!</p>
