Ole Miss or Cal Poly SLO?

I'm a political science major looking to transfer from my community college in California and I'm not certain where to go. I have decent grades, but I'm not going to Harvard anytime soon. The only colleges I'm interested in as of right now are Cal-Poly SLO and University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), but I don't know much about their political science programs or even the social life. I'm open to any and all suggestions for other schools or just info on these two. So let me sum up my general interests/needs.
*I would like to go to a school that can party, one that can get a little crazy.
*No schools that are super liberal, I can handle different opinions but some professors can't.
*Preferably cheaper schools, prestige isn't vital to me.
*I want a school that's accepting to new people as much as possible.
*If anyone can tell me about the Ole Miss or Cal Poly-SLO Political science programs that would be delightful!

Seriously any help would be great!

Any school is going to have some professors that are super liberal, but if you’ve never gone to college how do you know your professors can’t handle your opinions? Even if you go to Ole Miss you will probably have at least a few professors who are super liberal and may even disdian your opinions. That doesn’t mean that you won’t get good grades - or that it will even become an issue.

If you are interested in big Southern universities with crazy social life look at University of South Carolina, University of Alabama, University of Georgia, Lousiana State University, Mississippi State, University of Florida, maybe even University of Missouri. They’re all public, though, so financial aid won’t be very forthcoming. Several of them have scholarship programs, though; Bama’s is pretty well-known/extensive.

Other large universities with good social life are Penn State and Michigan.

If you are in-state in CA definitely apply to your in-state colleges; those will be your cheapest options. UCLA and Berkeley are obvious, but the other UCs can also be good bargains - Davis, Irvine, Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara, etc. Also check out other CSUs besides Cal Poly.

Personally, if I could do college all over again - aside from a small LAC - I would choose a big crazy Southern public. I’m from the South, and I love football and partying. Huzzah!

Thanks Julliet, I am transferring from a community college and I spent 2 semesters at a small liberal arts college. I’ve had one liberal prof. that was open minded enough for other opinions, even defending them at points. Outside of that, my liberal profs haven’t been so fair. Of course it’s inevitable that their will be different opinions, even in the south, but i don’t enjoy faculties in which one ideology is the standard for all.

I am trying to broaden my search to the other Cals, but I love football and partying! Thanks for the advice.
