Ole Miss requesting that we confirm our intentions to attend at this time?

DS just got an email from Ole Miss. How can they ask us to confirm at this time? May 1 is the commit date. Why not have the option to choose “I am still strongly considering Ole Miss but have not made a final decision yet”.

My son got the same email and I am not sure what he should do. My guess is nothing should be done but I may ask him to call. Please post again if you find out more.

Just because they ask, doesn’t mean you have to.

In other words, pay the deposit. If the acceptance letter said that the deadline to decide is May 1st I’d ignore this request.

Call the admissions office. NACAC guidelines prohibit them from requiring a decision before May 1. Just tell them you are still undecided (but if they want to give you a lot of $$ maybe that will sway your decision! )

If you are sure to attend or withdraw, you should response to them. Unless they specifically say it will be considered as 1 or 3 if not responded by certain date even before May 1, I would not worry too much about it.

Sounds good. I think the consensus is that they are requesting that you let them know if you have made your decision. If you haven’t made a decision then don’t respond. It’s a request…not a requirement. I am just going to disregard and let them know as soon as I can.

I emailed admissions, they said student can wait, or answer yes. It does not hold them to anything, they can still withdraw if they decide not to attend.

We aren’t responding to the email because we are still waiting to hear from other schools. Ole Miss is in our top 3 but we just have to wait. I think if someone knows for sure that they will or will not attend, it’s good to let them know. Otherwise, I wouldn’t worry about it.

I saw a comment re: paying a deposit. Ole Miss does not require a deposit for admission so that would not be part of the process. Some special programs may require a deposit, but general admission does not have a deposit. Thanks!
