I sympathize with you, smr. Applying from NJ is about the same...

cj, totally agree, nj is ubercompetitive.

yeah; nj right here too

out of 7 people in the past 3 years who applied, only 1 was accepted in my school

he had a 28 ACT and was ranked 4th in the class...

BUT of course, he was an amazing tennis player

life is so unfair...

and BTW, the rest of the applicants had 32-35 ACTs...

grrrrrr.

And I don't get it, because the vast majority of these college recruits won't get anywhere with a career in their sport.

well i suppose i sound like a wet blanket. i'm not opposed to sports, really, it's just college makes me a bit loopy. and, i mean, it's not like anyone on this forum could ever relate to THAT.

my friend just got accepted into NYU ED. im soooo jealous that his agony has already ended....and ended well at that. just 4 more days!!!!

I think it's definitely the case that colleges prioritize some high schools and de-prioritize others. They will never admit it, but the acceptance patterns you cite are the same ones I see in my area (ie: some colleges almost never admit students from a school, while their peers or even more selective colleges do). It's statistically improbable that these outcomes are random - it's much more likely that some high schools are just not considered priorities for admit by that admissions office.

Some colleges have made it quite clear that they favor/dislike my school... I only realized this year though.

The rep for my area/school was replaced with another officer this year, so I hope the relationship remains intact! The new lady seems very, very nice though.

Haha your schools sounds like you send a lot to Yale each year, so I guess Yale likes your school.

As for us, we've sent one person to Yale both last year and the year before. I already know a girl who's pretty much accepted to Yale this year, I'm just praying that Yale decides to take another.

we've sent 1 girl last year, 1 boy 3 years ago, 3 people 4 years ago; our average class size is around 50 kids per grade though

wow that is incredibly small. how do you survive??

that's what she said

HAaaaahahahahah nice one...

Haha our school only has 70.

All girls too.

...

Don't ask.

well I've grown to prefer it to a really large class as we all know each other

hahahah dchari that was a good one

my class has 400, co-ed public, and i still think its too small...

Mine is 600+ and I feel like everyone knows too much about everyone else's business.

I think I have about 250... co-ed. I made a point of learning every person's name :-)

I'm a dork, I know, but I like being able to address people properly should I need to.

258, coed, everyone knows everything about everyone, it's disgusting.

524, almost everyone knows everyone, but it might be just like "oh, i've heard of him/her". Probably know the better half of the class personally though.
