Omg I Am Not Going To Get Into College!

Omg I Am Not Going To Get Into College!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just realized that I am probably going to be competing with the international poll, which is much more competitive than the domestic one. I came to the United States from Asia 9 years ago but my Green Card status is still pending. My EFC is around 10,000- 15,000. Yale, Princeton, and Harvard said that they are going to place me in the domestic poll, since I enrolled at a high school in the US, but do you guys know if other top tier schools will do this too? Does this significantly lower my chances?!? I am so worried!!!

All I can say is I hope you applied to more places than just HYP. And while being domestic does help, being international is not bad at all, since they all want diversity these days. Don't sweat it, wait another 9 days before flipping out please. If you don't get in anywhere, come back. It's a) too hard to answer your question in a reasonable, matter-of-fact truth and b) DECISIONS ARE A WEEK AWAY!

threads about chances are pointless right now, it will only make things mcuh worse or better in the end, and the much worse side is not worth it. Go sleep or eat or play ouside....or do something productive atleast. You have the next four years of your life to be flipping out 24/7

Duke will place you in Domestic, So will Penn(not sure about it, though).

Being international is not too bad as long as finances are not an issue...
That said, I think you would have to compete with the other international students for the limited fin aid available at Penn.

thanks guys for your replies. i am just worried about colleges like dartmouth and brown, with limited financial aid for international students. i wonder how these colleges are going to compare me with international applicants. things like national merit, national honors society, quiz bowl... how are they going to compare that with extracurricular activities of international students? everything about my app is very much "US", if you know what I mean.

Call those schools and ask if you are considered international or domestic. That's the only way to know.

And actually - most schools only accept ~7 percent of internationals......

Neither am I, get over it.

^ Really Mallomar? You always gave such valuable advice!

Lol "get over it" is always good advice. No matter what. It's my personal mantra. Really.

erm...kommunity kollegE?

With decisions a week away, in all likelihood your application has already been considered at all the schools to whick you've applied. So sleep easy! Chances are you'll get in somewhere and have a great time there, so don't panic for a full week over a problem that probably isn't a problem anyway.
Good luck!

thanks for all the responses. I just think that it's fair that all the people from my school are placed in the same poll, and I am thrown into the international pile. none of my friends know this and all think I am going to get into at least one top tier school like HYPS (2380, 3rd in class, president of four clubs, state-level awards, etc etc). what am i going to tell them when 3/23 arrives and i got rejected EVERYWHERE?! my entire school is expecting me to get into a good school. sigh...... such is life.

Then they don't understand the system. With acceptance rates below 20%, loads of people with your stats get rejected. Nothing to do with you; just with the strength of the applicant pool and with the number of kids applying.

Besides, in your initial post, you said that Yale, Princeton and Harvard have already told you that you're in the domestic pool, so there's no "international" problem there - you're just like every other US kid who's applied.

Why are you assuming that the other schools won't do the same? Isn't it easier to pick up the phone and call, rather than worry?

depends on what school.
the top-top-top like HYPMS being international is a great minus, (arguably moreso than asian american)
but in other top tier schools (say, top 50) being international helps promote diversity as long as you dont ask for aid.
