I have an on-campus interview in a week. Can anybody who has had a WashU interview offer advice? Some schools ask those tricky questions to see your thought process--does WashU do that? Thanks!

WashU's interviews are usually conducted by a junior or senior. They are fairly casual but I wouldn't suggest walking in wearing jeans and a tee-shirt. If you want to find out more about the school, ask them questions. They do interviews because they love it, not because they have to. Just relax when you do it!

When my S interviewed during a visit two years ago, he saw an admissions staffer, not a student. I think the most important thing in any college interview is to show that you've looked into the programs, departments, academic course offerings of the college enough to say why going there appeals to you with some specific details about your areas of interest. IOW, do your research first. Why WU is a good fit for you and vice versa. Then just relax and have a conversation. Wear something casual but neat; I don't think clothes matter much at all but you don't want what you're wearing to make you feel uncomfortable in anyway so don't go too dressy or too messy. My 2 cents.

Not sure when it changed, but all interviews this year have been with students to my knowledge.....If anyone has had an interview with an admissions officer so far this year..please post

D had one last winter with an admissions officer because the students weren't around(X-mas break)....and it was very casual(she wore a sweatshirt and jeans).

I had an interview this summer and it was with a student. She asked me about my interests, my plans for senior year, what I was looking forward to in college and why I chose to look at Wash U. I felt a little overdressed in a skirt and blouse but I think it's better to be overdressed than underdressed. Everyone else who was there was interviewed by students

I just did an on-campus interview yesterday (Friday Sept. 27), and mine was with an admissions guy who was really cool. I saw many students being interviewed by students, howver, so they must use both.

I thought I would be interviewed by a student, but I was quite taken aback when I saw admissions officers. Just be prepared for either/or. And as a general rule, it's always beeter to overdress than underdress. The questions aren't tricky, but they do try to inquire how well you know yourself. Don't prepare for it, in my opinion. Just be yourself, because really, that's waht tehy want to see. Oh, and relax. i was a nervous wreck at first and ahve no idea what I said lol

Yeah, about the clothes, it was kind of funny because I was wearing the exact same thing as the adcom who interviewed me. Khakis and a blue button down shirt.

i interviewed this year, with school in session, with an admissions officer. young guy, very relaxed interview, some good questions that made me thing but he wasnt out there to trick me, jsut to really see who i was so it wasnt intimidating or anything....i wouldnt be worried, if anything it will help you if you're social

Okay, what if the day is really hot (like today's 90 degrees) and you sat in on a class and took the 1 1/2 hour tour prior to the interview? How are you expected to dress?

Everyone worries much too much about what to wear. Unless you wear something wildly inappropriate, I can assure you the interviewer will not be judging you based on your clothing. The interviewers' only interests are learning about you in order to determine what kind of match you are for Wash. U and providing you with information to help you decide if Wash. U is right for you.
