I have an interview at WashU this friday. People have been telling me it is a very relaxed interview and I have no reason to be nervous. They have also said that you do not have to dress casually (shirt and tie), instead jeans will do. I am kind of skeptical about it though. To anyone who has done an interview with them: Did you guys' interview go well and how did you guys dress?

You don’t really have to dress up like going to church. Just make sure you don’t wear jean with holes. If you’re a woman, make sure don’t show too much cleavage or anything else that shouldn’t. My D wore a “normal” (holeless ;)) jean with some nice shirt. Pretty low key almost like her regular HS days.

I dressed semi-formally. The interview is definitely really casual. My interviewer was a senior at wash u and we just sat on a bench and talked.

Yeah the interview went very well. I had mine with an admissions officer, but it was still very relaxed and chill.

I wore semi-formal.
My interview went wonderfully until he (chair of the APAP committee in my area) asked me about my interest level in WUSTL compared to that of other schools I’m applying to. I replied, “Well, it depends on how much financial aid I get.” He told me that’s a perfectly reasonable answer, but must not have been too happy with it; though I still had questions to ask, he wrapped up the interview. wince

If he did think less of you because you need financial aid, then he is a jerk. I think most people understand how expensive universities are, and understand the need for financial aid.
