Don't be confused by my username, my name is Ashley and I'm a guy. I want the most social scene for friends and girls, best option, most fun etc. I don't know how the food is on-campus? Or if Bursley is going to be social and worth it or if I am going to meet people even though I am in off-campus. I plan on rushing.

I have a few options so far I am looking at. I can stay at Bursley in the Douglas House in a double (2 people per room). It will cost me $9,996 with a food plan and lasts 9 months.

I can stay at Landmark for $11,950 in a 6 bedroom, 4 bath with food and all utilities, cable, internet, etc. It's all guy roommates and lasts 12 months. Worried about social scene and getting food...I don't think there's a grocery store around? Do a lot of people stay around in the summer?

I can stay at Varsity for $11,030 in a 4 bedroom, 2 bath with food and all utilities, cable, internet, etc. It's all guy roommates and lasts 12 months. Worried about social scene and getting food...I don't think there's a grocery store around?

Just so you know, Landmark and Varsity are a couple of the most expensive housing options around campus – if finances are a concern, I would definitely look at other options.

Thanks for the information. Any advice between living off-campus or on-campus as far as social scene…making friends and meeting girls. Any advice on places to stay?

Anywhere on south campus gets pretty rowdy.

I’d head out to the library early Saturday morning (sad right? lol), walk back home in the middle of the day, there’d be parties everywhere. Especially on Greenwood. I don’t know how anyone can live on that street…like one big block party all the time haha.

If you are a Freshman, I’d recommend staying with Bursley as it is essentially all Freshman and you wouldn’t want to miss that social experience. If you are a transfer, then yeah, getting something close to Central may be better.

Alice Lloyd, Couzens and Mojo are probably the most sought-after freshmen dorms. They are in the Hill Neighborhood (on central but kind of far from classes) which has many dorms right next to each other so it’s pretty social. The dorms there have all been renovated too.

East Quad and West Quad are pretty good too and have the best location. East Quad was just renovated this year and will likely be super nice. West Quad is old but the rooms are huge. But there are more upperclassmen.

South Campus (aka the student ghetto) is where many upperclassmen have houses. It is by where the athletic facilities are. The only dorm that’s located there is Fletcher Hall which is the smallest dorm. It gets loud on weekends (especially on game days) because many house parties are thrown.

The only other rooms I see on campus that come up on self-selection are Northwood I and II which is either a studio or a 2 bedroom. Which is better, Bursley or Northwood I or II?

no real groceries to shop unless you have a car.

Mealplan is not subsidized if you live off campus, so the cheapest unlimited plan will cost you $9.5 a meal.

Because central campus dorms are all full, it’s not a bad idea to consider living off campus. Just note that right now the cheaper ones are all filled so those large commercial ones are the only ones available pretty much that is of walking distance.

Mixed reviews on “social norms.” Sure the amount of exposure from living on apt may be smaller, but if you are sociable enough, it really is not too bad.

I am wondering what taking the bus from Landmark to grocery shop would be like. Do you suggest I live in Bursley or Landmark?

What is your major? Where would you be mostly, including library, etc?

Economics or finance, remember from the other thread? I get up around 8am every day. I go to class for a few hours. Eat lunch. Hit the gym for a couple hours. Do hw for a few hours either in the library or my room and then I hang out with friends until around midnight and repeat. On the weekends I go to a party, lounge, sporting event etc. I am very social. I work hard and play hard.

Sounds like southern campus for you. Bursley will be pain in the butt to be honest, especially when weather acts up. If I were you, I would live in an apt on central campus.

Thanks for the advice, Bursley seems like it’s out of the way and I get the feeling nobody wants to be there. I was thinking about taking over a Bursley double in Douglas, but someone told me it was an all guy house.
