I have a brother in med school. Would he be considered a college student?

Your brother in med school is counted as the number of people in your household if he lives in your parents house when he is not in school. However, he is not counted as a college student because this refers to undergrads.

Wait… So basically the number of people in your household is basically the ones who live with you parents right? If they don’t live with your parents anymore does that mean they don’t get counted as the number of people in your household?

One of my siblings is not exempted on my parent’s tax return… that means this person is not part of the amount of people in our household ?

If a child of your parents would be counted as a dependent if they filed FAFSA (uder 24, not married etc), then they are counted as a member of household on your FAFSA even if they no longer live there. This is because they would have to include parets in their information if they filed FAFSA. It does not matter if they are dependents for tax purposes or not. That is a different thing.

A Grad or professional student is independent for FAFSA, so can not usually be included as one in college on a dependent student’s FAFSA.

My family size is composed of 5 people (mom, dad, brother, me and my sister) My sister is 26 years old and she doesnt live with me but living with someone else not married yet and going to grad school at some other state but does come home sometimes. My brother is under 18. Now when fafsa asks us the number of people in our household as of now… do i put 5 or 4?

wopps. i just read your posts. lol yeah so it’s 4.
