On Line summer Math programs

D wants to skip a year of math to get in same class as friends a year ahead of her.

School said some online schools, no credit, but can pass out of current.

Anybody know of some?

Northwestern University Gifted Learning Links in Chicago has online classes for credit. Here is the link:

[Gifted Learning Links :: Gifted LearningLinks](Online Programs | Northwestern Center for Talent Development)

Good luck!

CTYOnline

CTY has many more course offerings, if she has participated in their “talent search”.

Indiana University On-line High School. Very affordable. No need to have participated in prior talent search:

Art of problem solving is a another good source for additional topics in math: [Online Math Classes](http://www.artofproblemsolving.com/Classes/AoPS_C_Enroll.php)

But looks like some of the traditional topics (like Algebra), are taught online during school year, not summer.

My son recently completed algebra I with ALEKS to test out of 9th grade math and go on to geometry. It cost 100 bucks for 6 months and provides very good documentation for the school, but there is no real teacher. Go to aleks.com and do the free trial to see if she likes it. It worked very well for my son, but I can see why it might not be so great for everyone.

EPGY has it too but it’s expensive. I’ve heard ALEKS, posted by neato above, is really, really great - and cheap.

edit: I forgot about Thinkwell.com - and I’m using it right now :)

Parents, how significant/insignificant is the math placement for a 9th grader? Are they lock stepped to where they get pegged or are schools being honest when they say they try to place them conservatively but it’s realatively easy to accelerate them for 10th or 11th after seeing them as students for a year?

CTY!

S tried CTY and CTD the past two years. CTY has new improved on-line math which is really good.
We had some issue with CTD last summer. Slow respond from instructor and he/she went for vacation for two or three weeks, during that time, no one will respond when son has questions.

Neato - what about about Aleks Algebra 1 did you think might NOT be for everyone?

I am searching now for an online program, for the same reason ( testing out of Algebra and into Geometry ).
