Hello guys, I know I post here a lot but I feel like I always seek guidance here.
Basically, I was dismissed this spring due to poor academic achievement. The dean and I made a promise that if I receive a grade of B or better on two of the courses that I took over the summer, I’d get readmitted. Due to me being very irresponsible, I ended up with a B and a C+ (<.4 away from B ). I thought that it was the end, and I reached out to the dean the last time, this generous man said that if I maintain a consecutive semester of B or better, we could revisit readmission. Our school did not have a website that specifically stated the readmission process. Also, it said that the dismissed students are not eligible for reinstatement but yet my dean has sent me an email concerning revisiting readmission under the condition. I was wondering, do I believe in dean’s word or the school website?
Concerning the readmission, for the past semester, I enrolled in local CC and took 3 classes and ended the semester with 2 solid B’s and 1 B+.
I think I am on the right track but still not certain of what I should do. One of the reason is that I accidentally enrolled in this online class and found out that I was a part of it during midterm ( thankfully I was able to withdraw from it) and this has been bothering me because I am afraid that it will hurt my chances. I am currently enrolled for the spring as well, this time 4 classes. I am hoping to get a B or better in all of my classes.
Do you guys think that I still have a chance? Did I take too little class this fall semester? Are there any suggestions on what I should do? I apologize for the messy grammar. I am very stressed at the moment and really can’t think straight.
Thank you for all the help you guys have given me in the past, it really meant a lot for me!
Congratulations on doing well at CC, and three classes is a good load. Great job!
Do you have any learning issue (like ADHD) that might be addressed or might earn you a reduced course load (and other accommodations) if you do return to your old school?
If I were you I would continue at CC and do your application next fall to return. That way you will have a longer record of success and more experience managing your academics. But take classes that for the most part will be accepted for credit wherever you end up.
This is your junior year…and you are already a transfer to this school…right?
True story. Family (immediate) member.
Was academically dismissed from an Ivy. Was told the same thing…to do well at a CC and could return.
So…student took CC courses for a full year in CA. Got ALL A grades. Went back to the Ivy and was permanently academically dismissed one semester later.
Student said the biggest mistake he made was leaving the CC. He should have stayed there, completed his associates, and then transferred to a CA instate public (family was CA residents at the time).
I say this because…be sure you are really vigilant if you return to your four year school. Getting solid grades there is going to matter a lot. If you end up with academic issues again, you could be permanently asked to leave.
So…first off when you get back…look for the tutorial office, and seek assistance. There is nothing wrong with doing this!
@compmom thanks for the advice! I really appreciate it! I didn’t really have any disabilities, it was just the combination of bad relationship and awful time management skills. At this point, I am anxious for the class that I withdrew. other than that, I think I know now how to manage my time wisely and ways to get better grades. I think I’ll be contacting the dean after this semester to discuss readmission so hopefully, I could be at my school for the fall 19!
@thumper1 Hi! sorry for the late reply! Yes it will be my junior year and I am already a transfer student.
I think the thing that has changed the most is that I’ve set a clear goal in my life, long-term, and short-term. Also, I’d say that I am now emotionally stable, as I’ve received full support from my families and friends. I could definitely say that at the time when I wrote that post, I lacked self-confidence, I was described as pessimistic as well as suffering from depression. Now I gained my self confidence by working, attending class and getting a good grade and making friends that truly support me. For the story of your family member, that is one of the things that I most fear; repeating the same mistake. I believe that your last sentence is very important and I’m going to follow it. I do believe I’ve made some relationships with the professors at the CC who said they will be willing to help me if I were to go back and take classes that are relevant to their interest. ( This is because I could get very shy, which I am not too proud about. I’ve discussed with some of my professors from the CC I’m attending, and they said they would be more than happy to help me out in the future) at this point, I just hope I have a chance back at my school.
Again, thank you for the great suggestion! I’ll keep a note of it!
