On Rec Letters

I've heard 3rd rec letters can give a boost. Would sending a rec letter from the head of a women's shelter at which I've volunteered (in addition to rec letters from teachers) count for anything, or is that not "academic" enough a position?

You can send that as a supplement letter. Note though that colleges do not like it if you send too many recs.

Well, i have a question myself, is two supplenent recs too many? ( both will be very helpful)

I don't know. I have a theory though that if your rec letters only help to booster what you say about yourself or your interests on the app or in essays, that's best. Colleges like to see a solid person emerge from applications. GPA is most important everywhere.

My personal take on sending supplemental letters is: send them only IF the person writing them can add something to your application that the required recommendations won't. If the head of the women's shelter knows you well, and can speak specifically about you and your character or contributions at the shelter, then it definitely won't hurt and, depending on the college, may help.

However, first double check with each school on your list. Some absolutely will not take supplemental recomendations.

one okay. two may be a little too many. more than that s a no-no.

the thing is, i'm sure the 2 supplement letters will certainly help loads. Don't all colleges take supplement letters?
