I have the option to send two extra letters of recommendation. I think they are really good.
One is from an employer at a garage who I worked with. (I am planning to study mechanical engineering and he mentioned that I am perfect fit for it. He also mentioned my passion.)
The other is from the head of an international volunteer organization that shows my love for kids. She mentioned my drive and how I planned specific things( PS3 competitions…) and how much they loved me and how much I loved them.
Questions
- They are specific and non bland. Do you think it is bad to send these recommendations
- If no or yes, I have the recommendations anyone willing to read them to say if they are unique and special.
Thank you
I would definitely send at least the first if schools allow, just because it seems to fit well with what major you are applying for. The second seems more general. Not bad, just not as application-geared?
Extra letters of rec should highlight aspects of who you are that are not revealed by the recs from your teachers. If the letters aren’t redundant - aren’t show-casing the same characteristics and skills, then go ahead and send them.
You have the recommendations? Did you waive your FERPA rights?
I think if you like both of them, and they highlight different aspects of your personality, then send them.
I waived my rights; I didn’t see my teachers and counselors but my employer and the volunteer person allowed me to see it and gave me a copy though I didn’t ask them to change anything.
- ANYONE willing to see if I should send them or not?
- Do you think that sending 2 extra letters of recommendation is bad for high quality schools (ivy, usc, stanford…)?
If you think they are unique, just send both of them. Sending 2 extra letters of recommendation isn’t going to hurt you at any school you apply to, and could help if they provide a better picture of who you are. Just don’t go overboard and send 10 letters or something.
