For everyone wondering if the time thing is true. In the decision thread I created, I included a place for you to put your time of application submission.

updated with state: I was a 1:16. 2190 SAT, 34 ACT. Applied to Pratt. From Midwest.

Wow, I’m excited by how much discussion has come up from my analysis I’m not going to add these new numbers to the mean now, though, since there’s obviously a new bias in the sample. Before I posted the data, no one knew I was analyzing their SAT scores. Now they do, so some people may try to bolster or diminish the results depending on their vested interest.

Anyway, the 1:16 accept v. 5:35 deny does seem to make some practical sense. In posting decisions online, it makes no difference to the Duke database which state the applicant is from; they probably made all of their final decisions before posting anything online anyway. The acceptance/denial letters are the only thing they had left to upload to the server so close to D-Day. There are, however, so many 1:16ers that I’m inclined to believe that those waitlisted may be in that group as well. But I hope not…

Nevermind about whatt I had before. Anyways, just came up with another theory. Perhaps they uploaded decisions + all the admitted students crap at 1:16 and then rejections/waitlists at 5:35? Unless the admitted students stuff isn’t on that site because then that doesn’t make sense. Hm. Actually…Unless they uploaded acceptance letters at 1:15 (they mass uploaded all the acceptance letters at the same time because they’re uploading the same file - it just reads the variables differently depending on the PIN number) and rejection letters at 5:35. Still, though, that doesn’t account for waitlisted applicants so it must be false (as there would have had to have been three upload times). It’s an idea, though. Meh…I hope none of this is true because that would mean that I didn’t get in :(.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the times really have something to do with acceptance lol it seems realistic to me that duke would upload the same messages (accept/reject/waitlist) together…

@JGA: awww, you’re welcome! being in a ballet company must be amazing! Hehe

2210 SAT / 5:35

Maybe the time is related to the date you submitted your application. I submitted mine on December 29th. They read the applications as they come in so it is possible that the first batch applied earlier and the second batch applied later. Could someone else post when they submitted their app so that my theory could be debunked?

^ submitted Dec. 31.
1:16

Hahaha, I was proven wrong within 2 minutes.

Submitted January 1 (I’m such a procrastinator!), 1:16

^
10char

This displeases me. I know I should just leave and wait until Monday, but this thread is like a train wreck. It’s horrible, but I can’t look away. 0.o

You guys, this is really ridiculous…

let’s just wait.

^that’s what she said…

What about financial aid?
I didn’t apply for it, 5:35
Disprove this theory?

I didn’t either 1:16, so I guess it’s not financial aid~

LOL. xD disproved again… 314159 or however digits of pi he had, has the most compelling argument. stats ftw!

international, no aid, 2230, 4.2 gpa, attending school in california, not stellar ECs, rejected by MIT CALTECH STANFORD BLA BLA BLA. so… hoping for duke?

haha and I thought I had struck gold in undiscovered grounds there
oh well, I’m just going to stop thinking about this now and hope for the best. Good luck to all

you guys are so cute with your theories:))

^ AGREED!

I would hope that Duke wouldn’t be so transparent, and I doubt that they are…
