On the Duke decisions check place...

@ motion: I’m not quite understanding this…how does this make the 1.16 average SAT scores higher? Since according to your theory, those with very very low stats were inputted earlier as well, wouldn’t this cancel out the higher scores and pull the average score down?

EDIT: nevermind, motion XD I just reread your post and realized you covered that already :stuck_out_tongue: sorry~

I think what he is saying is that at 1:16 Duke inputted definite accepts and definite rejects, and at 5:35 they submitted those on the fence… maybe, waitlists? Or a mix?

STOP IT!!! I am so getting paranoid now!!! I mean do you really think a college like DUKE would leave such loopholes??? And would we be the first geniuses to notice this??? I mean if it was true then either DUKE would have taken care to remove the time display OR there would be a proven record of the correlation from past years!!!

I have 1.16
and neither do I have drastically bad SATs nor do I have a likely!!!

I KNOW WE ARE ALL FREAKED OUT!!! But this is freaking me out more than the decision!!!

EDIT: Now this has made me rethink on my SATs…is it drastically bad??? I HATE THIS UBIQUITOUS PARANOIA!!! :S
DUKE please remove us all from this depressing trepidation!!!

I suspect Duke has NO IDEA that there are students getting together over the internet to try back door ways to figure out acceptances… Someone who works in admissions probably has NO IDEA what leaving the time stamp on when uploading decisions means to the cc community. The statistical analysis done here is AMAZING. But still, no one really knows. And it may be totally meaningless. While the two groups are statistically significant, it remains to be seen why. It could be the original order with which applications were received. It could have to do with different admissions counselors. Different applications may be grouped with different counselors, skewing the scores one way or another. It could have to do with a label given to the app upon receipt. Since there are three groups, accepted, denied, and waitlisted, but only two time stamps, the waiting continues.

Sunnyflorida, most of the theories you posted have already been disproved. The only thing that we can’t fully explain is the waitlist.

@sunnyflorida, We know it is not in the order in which the apps were received because I got a 1:16 and submitted on Jan. 1, while someone else got a 5:35 and submitted on Dec. 29. So that theory has long been out the window.

There is some sort of significance, but I suppose we won’t find out until tomorrow!

Oh, and Akshat, this whole thing has me paranoid too! I mean, we could look away, but it is all too tempting!

1:16

I cant wait until monday!!!

duke doesnt look at writing??? yeah it does

Last name: J

I don’t think it’s got anything to do with our surnames…

Amazing!! I am underqualified for Duke and have 1.16 as well. Hope the theory that 1.16=acceptance is true!

Well, as someone who has had 7 family members attend Duke, I can say, that it is not unheard of to get in with “sub-par” stats, as one might say. From what I know of Duke, they really seem to value the person behind the words, not just the application itself.

Perfect stats will not get you into Duke, if you don’t have a soul to back it up.

Seebo, the “soul to back it up”? Hahaha. That’s ridiculously corny.

Haha, yeah. I know it’s pretty corny, but it’s true, as far as I know. It’s why, if you ask a Duke Admissions personnel for avg SAT/ACT scores, they will refuse to tell you.

Haha…this time uploaded thing is somewhat addictive. I can’t help but think it is all total BS. However, I still religiously check this forum.

1:16
2280
ahhh

Shall we have a recalculation of the averages?

I guess I have to believe seebo or DUKE might as well throw my app out of the window!!

I don’t care if it is BS!!! I JUST WANT IN!!!

I thought I had no chance in hell, but seeing the stats of other 1:16’ers has me feeling a little more confident. UNLESS, of course, the waitlistees are lumped in at 1:16. This is all assuming there is some sort of significance with decisions and time stamp. I don’t want another rejection on the heels of Stanford.

Anteater, do you really expect the Duke admissions to be that conniving? There needs to be some sort of explanation besides them wanting to play with our minds.

And, yes, someone recalculate the averages!

I think I have the perfect theory: the Duke admissions office wanted to keep us busy and thinking about Duke for the weekend. Especially since they are releasing decisions some what later than usual. In reality it means nothing, just something to laugh about.
