So now that everyone has the Next Big Mailing (I'm assuming because I like right in the middle of the country), what do you think of the dorms? Senior Haus looks like the coolest party in the world, and I can't really shake off my CPW-inspired love for EC. B-C needs to have more than one floor make the video, and Bexley is just scary and cultish. So... any decisions yet?

The 2005 i3 videos were better, in my opinion, and the 2004 ones even better than that. If you have the time, go to the individual dorm websites and see if they're still hosting their old E3 videos. I know EC keeps its old videos here. I'm looking at EC as my #1 choice, with Macgregor as #2.

i learned nothing from the videos, seemed like a bunch of kids being stupid for the sake of 15 min of fame. Still have no clue what to rank.

i enjoyed watching it immensely, but as girlfriend has said, learned (close to) nothing. guzzling syrup seems to be the thing, hahahah.

this only makes me think college is one big playground, ugh. xD

try to find past years i3 videos and/or look at dorm websites.

this was my impression last year too. Check the archives from this time last year for some discussion of particular dorms.

I totally agree that's what they come off as from their video (one year, I think my year, their whole video was a dog's rear end. I was so freaked out.)

But they're not really like that. It's just a Bexley tradition to do anti-rush, because they don't want people to pick them solely due to their (admittedly) awesome location.

I need help!

Is there any single room for incoming freshmen, if so, which dorm is for the single room?

Please help me rank the dorms I fit the best based on some traits:
a) i'm a very neat and tidy person
b) i HAVE TO go to bed at 12 am
c) i need quiet and non-hyper neighborhood
d) i hope my dorm is very close to a library
e) i hope my dorm has wireless internet server
f) i hope my dorm has a free wireless printer
g) i hope to have a single-room

thanks for any suggestion!

Macgregor pretty much guarantees singles.

MIT2010- if the library thing is a big deal, only the dorms on the east side of campus are very close to libraries. there are no libraries on dorm row. all dorms have wireless internet. printers are set up by the students on a hall themselves. east campus is loud and social for the most part. senior house 1st and 2nd floors are generally very quiet though...

You can sort of tell the type of people from the videos by what they do for fun. I guess this should lend to allowing you to better understand the dorm culture.

thanks so much!

i heard that all print cost for black-and-white are free in library? how about in the dorms?

"Macgregor pretty much guarantees singles" is male and female separated by floor in Macgregor?

also, how much more expensive is single than double room?

if i do choose Macgregor as my first choice, what's the probability that I will get it?

All printing to Athena printers is free in black and white, and there are Athena printers in many (all?) of the dorms.

Some entries in MacGregor separate guys and girls by suite, and some are coed. There are usually two suites per floor, but each suite has its own bathroom and kitchen. You can request to be put in a single-sex suite in the in-house rooming lottery (and that request will unquestionably be honored).

Housing rates for all the dorms by occupancy number are here.

It's difficult to say what the probability is that you'll get your first choice in the lottery, since it really depends on the choices of your class as a whole. Historically MacGregor has been a popular choice, but not the most popular, so I think you should have a good shot.

What about color printing? :)

I think there's a color Athena printer somewhere in one of the 30 buildings -- 37, maybe?

Other than that, you'd have to buy your own color printer or mooch off someone else's.

mm... I can't decide between EC and Senior House, I like both, and EC is cheaper (which is good) so I'm not sure, any suggestions?

Why don't you describe yourself or the attributes you value in a dorm?

OK, I'll describe what I know about myself. (I'll be as sincere as I can)
I'm very independent, kind of shy sometimes (something I want to improve)
I'm very happy and peaceful
I'm very random (clothing, dyed hair, etc.)
In order to be with me, ppl have to be queer friendly :p
I'm not a total mess but neither organized (I have a little organization in my own mess, you know, like I know where I can find my stuff even if it's not really organized)
I love technology, computers (don't we all?) and experimenting with stuff
I love many kinds of music (specially Rock, Dance, Techno, etc.)

What I need in a residence:
Cool/Nice people
Wireless Internet
A bed and a DESK (the desk is imperative)
if it's close to the campus, better

would like:
Cats :)

mm.. that's what I can say so far...

I haven't even seen the BC video...is is really that bad?

senior house is usually a backup choice for people who can't get EC. just sayin'
