On track for Top B-Schools?

Hello all!

I am an incoming sophomore at a top 20 school, and am trying to kind of sort out my future, so to say. I came out of freshman year with a 3.94 GPA and am planning on double majoring in Int'l Studies and Chinese. I just have a few questions as to be honest, I'm completely clueless about grad school admissions-

1) B-school admissions are pretty much just test scores and GPA, right? How important is extracurriculars etc? I plan on being very involved with my sorority and certain international groups around campus, and am spending this summer in China. Not sure about the future, but we'll see.

2) What sort of GPA should you aim for for a top b-school, like what range?

3) Any other advice?

Thanks!

You’re thinking of law school. The answer to your questions are,

1) No, not at all. In some cases (a 7-10 year career or more), GPA may not matter at all, and in any case it matters little; the average GPA at the top schools is 3.5 or so.

2) You should aim for “have a job that gives you great responsibility, right out of college, and then kick butt at it, win friends and allies and impress bosses and get promoted, and then 2-3 years later seriously consider the B-school application process”

3) Yeah, read this:

I would spend some summers getting business experience so that you land a great job when you graduate. That’s the key, ending up in a job with lots of responsibility and growth potential.
