What happens if you tell a school you will be attending by their deadline (May 1st) but then change your mind after the deadline?

specifically for Texas A&M University

I’m not sure, but can you legally change your mind after May 1st?

May 1st should be plenty of time to decide. You can always transfer later, too.

I’m concerned because I’m on the waiting list for UT, my first choice school. And they may not be able to tell me until after May 1 (or very close to the date) … even stating May 15 as their own deadline to tell me…

I think you tell them that and they don’t return your deposit, but it should be fine. But I could be wrong.

Ah, I didn’t know that. I have no clue then. Sorry.

I’m sure I’ll call A&M before I accept. My mom just had said that once I accept the acceptance offer then it’s like a contract and I’ll owe tuition for the first semester or something… at least the fixed cost tuition…
I’d be willing to give up the $300 housing deposit I’ve given already but not the $2000 amount my mother suggested.
But I’ll call sometime next month…

wow that sucks…

i just read about this on another thread somewhere. An adult suggested that you send a deposit and then if accepted off the waitlist, just notify them that you were accepted off the waitlist at another school and will not be attending (losing any deposits). BUT do check it out! I know one family in our town that was responsible for an entire YEAR of tuition (25K!!!) at a private HS when their daughter got off the waitlist at another school. You must read the contract!!

waitlist for high school?

now that is effed up on every level imaginable.

you will forfeit your deposit only.

yeah, the private hs thing is crazy.
