One Acts

Does anyone know of some good, comedic one acts that are NOT overdone, that would be a half hour long? Preferably something with more than 5 people in it including both genders. Any suggestions are welcome!

Waiting by Ethan Coen- my son did this when he was a senior in high school.

I don’t know if it is overdone, but my school did “The Actor’s Nightmare” by Christopher Durang about a month ago & it was funny

Would “Check Please!” by Jonathan Rand qualify - comedic, 7 males and 7 females - but might be overdone?

My daughter’s theatre teacher is a published playwright and has written several incredible one acts. Several of his one acts have won the Virginian High School League state championship one act theatre festival, including “AP Theatre” in 2011. They took his one act called “Going to School” to States this year and came in 4th, but that one won the VA State championship also in 2002. In addition to his comedic one acts, he has several dramatic ones as well (“Booby Trap” is incredible…they took it to States in 2010!) His name is Ed Monk and his plays are published by Playscripts, Inc. I know that all of these are in the 30 minute range because that is the prescribed length for the VHSL one act competition.

Love all of his stuff, but my favorite is “AP Theatre” and it can take a pretty large cast, both male and female. My daughter was in the original cast last year when they won States and it was fabulous! Good luck!
