Hi everyone, I am VERY worried about this semester. I’m afraid I might get two C’s (honors pre-calc & AP statistics). No matter how much I study, I just seem to do badly on the tests. There is a possibility I could a C in stat but I will PROBABLY get a B (I hope lol) but pre-calc is the main concern. I maintained mostly A’s with B’s mixed in here and there throughout high school but am very, very worried about this semester. I am also taking APUSH and an easy gym class, which I will probably get A’s in (maybe a B in APUSH). I’m working really hard but I’m just so burnt out from this tough year. I am so concerned about getting C’s because it’s never happened to me before. If the worst case scenario happens (C’s in pre calc & stat, B in APUSH, A in sports class), how bad will that look? I’m freaking out. The stress and anxiety of school is killing me. I have tutors in both stat & pre calc so I’m realllllllly hoping I can pull off a B in those classes.
just some things to add: I’ve never made less than an A in a math class & a lot of people in my pre calc class have D’s and some have F’s.
The anxiety that you have worrying about your grades could become a barrier to you actually learning the material. This is the downward spiral.
Stop worrying. Stop freaking out.
Back in 2004, the Red Sox were down 3-0 to the Yankees. The manager Terry Francona told the team
“JUST WIN TODAY”. The rest is history. They didn’t lose again and ended an 86 year old curse.
Focus on learning the material for today. Do your best.
When tomorrow comes, do the same, etc.
Just win today!
Whatever will be will be.
It will be ok. Really.
2 C’s and a B will not help your transcript, but you know this already, right? It doesn’t sound as if your class in general is doing well, but it still doesn’t erase what you are currently scoring on exams. Keep working hard with your tutor, and hopefully you can bring your grades up.
If you are getting C’sin HS pre-calc, then you may have have to amp up your study habits for college.
You are not studying correctly. You need to figure out how to study more effectively.
Go to your teacher and ask how succesful students study. Maybe a tutor, study group, doing extra problems, going to the teachers office hours?
He has a tutor. He’s just focused on GPA math rather than pre-calc and stats math. It’s hard to learn when you are anxious and freaking out.
thanks for the inspiration @ClassicRockerDad ! It’s hard to stay happy when you’re so worried about school. But @bopper , don’t be fooled by the name of the class. For some reason I can’t even fathom, pre calc is extraordinarily hard at my school. Most kids get C’s and a lot of people think it is HARDER than AP calc! I don’t understand it. Oh well. I’ll stop freaking out, up my studying, and work hard and hopefully it will all work out.
My daughter has historically done very well in math - so much that they placed her in Honors Advanced Algebra as a freshman and she took Trig and Pre-Calc as a sophomore. She got A’s until Pre-Calc. She got a C for the semester. Part of that - a big part, I think - was she freaked out because it was not easy for her anymore and she kind of gave up. When she told me she might fail the class, I told her to just get to work, study hard and try to get a C. She did.
She also took Pre-Calc again in the summer, and got a B. Do you have that option?
She has struggled with Calc AB this year, but she is getting a B as of now (got a C last semester - again, she is used to math coming easily to her, so just freaked and paralyzed when it didn’t. I had to talk her through it.)
Take a deep breath, go through your problems carefully, and just keep telling yourself you will get through this, and yes, you will even remember some of it later! Just do the best you can.
If this is your only bad semester so far, there is no need to be so fatalistic. You are challenging yourself, and that is good, actually. You will end up in a 4 year college - you will!
Just saying… hs pre calc is harder than ap calc in my opinion so i feel you
you’re done screwed up son for a lot of the best colleges
^ Not true, considering the rest of the class is struggling too.
Just work hard on improving your grade and bringing it up. Whether you have to study by yourself or in a group, do whatever you can to save your GPA. Your stress is understandable but will not help you if it remains. You just have to take a deep breath and plow forward to get through.

@ClassicRockerDad This is one of the best responses i’ve ever seen on this site. He’s completely right, the most important thing is not letting this effect the rest of your high school career/personal life.
Update: things are going better. I got one of the highest grades in my class on the last AP stat test and I’m calming myself down and not stressing as much over these things. Thanks for all of the help
further update: it’s definitely plausible for me to make 2 A’s and 2 B’s this semester. I turned around my grades in all of my classes and will likely, and hopefully, make A’s in APUSH and lifetime sports (easy gym class I’m taking for fun), and B’s in AP stat and honors pre calc. Finals are coming up and I just need a 93 on the APUSH final, 85 on the pre calc final, 81 on the Stat final, and a 67 for an A in lifetime sports (lol). Anyways, I am going to focus and try to not be on CC until school is up. Thanks for all of the help, everyone. Wish me luck!
Good luck and kudos to picking things up all along the line.
