One day visit to Tulane with me Daughter (prospective freshman) -- recommended sights?

Except for Mardi Gras season, it is pretty much a given. Most people don’t have time to take in the music on short trips.

Nice find with the article, @northwesty. Parkway is a huge favorite, and those others are primo as well. But in fact there are so many. In fact, there is a little Vietnamese owned grocery about 6 blocks from Tulane just off the park that makes an amazing po’ boy. Don’t remember the name, I just know how to get there.

Adding another vote for dat dog and Frenchman street (DS loved both). I like the shops and bakeries on Magazine St. and many of the restaurants in that area an uptown. Lots of choices. A fun thing to do ws the segway tour of treme and environs. And when you go to Antoines, ask to see the wine cellar, and if they let you in, look at the signatures on the wall. DS’s is there!!

How could I have missed this in my research? I pride myself on being thorough.

Willie Mae’s on St. Charles for fried chicken is really good. And then you can stroll over to pop into the Camellia Grill which is, of course, the all-time classic Tulane place.

Of course, every city has hidden treasures. There is something about NOLA that makes finding one even more special.

I totally agree with fallenchemist – and my family hates the FQ bc it is congested. But, we’ve been down there a ton of t We don’t go down there unless we are specifically eating someplace special or running to get beignets. The only reason I would suggest hanging out around there is b/c you don’t have a car and it is just more walkable.

To be specific, it is Bourbon Street that I try to avoid. But it can be jammed there and pretty quiet on Royal, just one street over. The FQ is quirky at the least.

Bourbon Street is the only street we avoid in the Quarter. We love strolling around the FQ, so much to see and do!

ok we ended up eating lunch at camila grill…oh my god what a sandwich! and the freezes were so damn refreshing after our walk down st charles…did the audobon park and zoo then walked magazine street then hit cafe du monde. antoine’s in a couple hours to cap off the visit.

Thanks everyone for the helpful insights and my daughter will be putting an app into Tulane for early action

Now that is a full day!! You guys will sleep very well. Glad the weather held up, I assume from all the walking.
