Don’t waste good wine on acceptances–you’ll be so happy, drinking right from the box won’t even matter. Drink the fine wine to help soften the rejections/waitlists. Corollary to @doschicos comment: You’ll still be able to afford it.
I might resort to something stronger if I get no acceptance.
@doschicos: The bubbly is less than $50/bottle…so even an FA family like mine can indulge when times call for a celebration!
@SculptorDad: I can recommend things of higher proof if needed. Fingers cross they won’t be!
@SevenDad , No offense intended, but I must speak up for the hoi polloi. Your wine list and “<$50/bottle” sound impossibly expenaive to this FA mama. And I imagine some full-pay parents might feel the same as they struggle to pay those big bills.
We celebrated our M10 with Chinese takeout and sparkling cider.
Boarding school fees or not: there is no excuse for drinking bad wine. Surely some of that budget could be spent on the parents considering all the money being spent on teenagers?
Besides, I thought we were all friends here… let’s save the judgement for the main board!
I saved the “good” bottle of wine for the day that I wrote the first tuition check. I felt that a high quality distraction was needed…
@london203 , You’re quite right, and I apologize. I should have edited my post into oblivion.
@twinsmama If ds gets in, this full pay (somehow…) hoi polloi (oxymoron?) appreciates your post and your concern!
@twinsmama No Worries! Like I said – we are all friends here.
Alas, no M10 drinking for this mama - driving DD to a tournament the morning of M11, a 9-hour drive one-way. Although, on a second thought, I may hide in the hotel room with @SevenDad’s bubbly while the kid is expending M10 emotional energy on the court.
We have one child waiting for placement in a specialized school and another in the college hunt so Chimneyparents will be happy to drink along with you as needed throughout March Madness although we have no skin in the game on M10 in particular this year.
I just realized that a bunch of people sent me PMs over the past few months that I never saw/opened/acknowledged. Apologies. Been a busy time chez Seven. Will try to catch up (where appropriate/needed).
The board’s been relatively dormant/boring lately, so I thought I’d try and stir the pot and share that 7D2 transferred to a new BS.
The move was her decision (not a discipline or grades issue). Certainly made for a very busy Spring (she applied to schools well after the usual due dates) but it all got sorted out and we found a space for her at a great school.
I hope she finds her new “home” to her liking, @SevenDad. You and your wife are great parents for listening to and accommodating your kids’ needs.
Just wondering, how is it looked at by the schools to transfer from one boarding school to another? Are they understanding that the first school may not be all that you hoped for?
@doschicos: Thanks, I also hope the new school is more to her liking.
@queenmother: Care to clarify before I respond? Do you mean how did the new school view her desire to transfer? How did the old school? Something else?
^^ I would love to hear all about it. Also, if you don’t mind, was it for academics, sports, or both?
@SculptorDad: Was not for academic (her grades were great and there was the desired amount of rigor available in all grades at former school) or sports reasons.
How did both respond? Was the new school understanding? Did the old school have a problem with writing recommendations? Do you still hide to pay tuition for the old school?
