Today may well be the most stressful one ever experienced by the many youthful participants in this thread. However, whether or not you believe me, I want you to know that you'll be fine notwithstanding Duke's decision. While I love Duke and have been closely affiliated with the University for decades -- and I know its multi-faceted excellence and its ascendency well -- the simple fact is there are many other fine institutions that will serve your future VERY well. Therefore, rejoice if you are accepted, but if you are not, thoroughly understand that in the long-term your dreams, goals and future are not remotely in jeopardy. We all should delight in the fact that opportunity abounds and their are MANY paths that lead to success, happiness and satisfaction. Good luck to each of you, today and in your lengthy future.

Well said, TopTier. Good luck to all…

Well put, sir. It’s hard to keep in mind on a day like today, but college isn’t the objective – it’s an important (and hopefully stimulating and fun) place that you pass through on the way toward longer term goals. It’s less important where you spend those four years than what you do with the opportunities they create. And I suspect the folks who have read these 32,000+ applications would tell you that there are many more students in that pool with potential for long-term success than there are beds on East Campus.

SOG: Excellently stated.

@TopTier Wonderful post! Brodhead will certainly reiterate your thoughts and sentiments in the letter applicants will receive from him today. I only hope they all take it seriously.
