Foodwise, you get swipes and it depends what plan you purchase as to how many you get each week. Umm, bathroom wise it depends where you live, but its very communal in most dorms, a guys bathroom and a girls bathroom with multiple shower stalls and such. Umm thats about it. Check out the housing website, it has all this on it, or make a friend at UCLA and ask them to show you. The food is awesome, especially when drunk.

I’m getting an apartment. I can easily have a social life without the dorm scenario…and I can live without the whole dorm party/alcohol scene. I guess it depends on your priorities and life. Eh.

“I’m vegan, and I cook a lot.
I don’t wanna share foods with people cause not many people know how picky a vegan can be. (I don’t even wanna share my dishes to serve meats)”

I don’t know about other schols, but UCLA has a vegan alternative for literally every meal offered.

“–I hate sharing. Period. My stuff. Your stuff. We do not mix.
–I’m a crazy picky eater.
–I must have at least mild OCD and can’t stand clutter”

UCLA is one of the top ranked in the nation for food. We have by far the best dorm food out of every UC. You won’t believe how much food is accessible here… Off the top of my head we have 4 dining halls all with their own different menus for breakfast, lunch, dinner. We have 4 take out restaurants that offer a sandwich menu, mexican menu, asian menu, hamburger/fast food menu, pizza menu, smoothie menu, coffee menu, frozen yogurt, desserts, etc… Is it possible to not gain weight here? Haha.

And the sharing/ocd/clutter stuff. You sort that out with your roommates. I’ve never had a problem with any of this and my roommates are extremely respectful. We keep our own spaces of the room and don’t use anything without permission. The key is to become good friends with your roommate.

"Also, how do the bathrooms work in transfer housing? Is it one bathroom per dorm, or one big public bathroom for the whole floor, or what? And what exactly makes UCLA’s housing “good?”

This entirely depends on what housing you decide. There’s all different kinds. Resident halls, plazas, suites. They range from being your traditional dorm room to basically on campus apartments. There’s 26,000 undergrads at UCLA and about literally 10-15,000 people living on campus. Basically like living in a bruin city. There are so many on campus housing options I’m sure you can find one that matches your personality. For instance living in the plazas is like literally living in a fancy hotel.

And how the prices? I heard that different housing types have different prices, rite? Can anyone tell me in specific details what are the differences between those types of housing (price, people per room, bathroom, etc… anything you know of) or point me to the site where I can find out information about all these? Thanks a million!!!

depends on whether you’ll be getting a single, a double, or triple… you should check out the various UC housing websites

See, I seriously need to start doing my UCLA research. More questions:

So UCLA does not have specific housing for transfer students?

How good is UCLA with matching you with a suitable roommate? Are there questions you answer beforehand to make sure you’re paired with someone generally on your same sleeping schedule, who wants to socialize the same amount that you do, etc., or is just a free-for-all where you could end up with any random roommate?

What’s included in the dorm costs and what’s not? Internet? Phone service? Is the cost of food already factored in?

How flexible is your lease vs. an apartment? If I hate my roommate and want to live somewhere else for the second/third trimester, is that doable?

How much does on campus cost?.
If it is economically viable to spend $1500 a year on on campus housing, and getting decent food to eat, i think it would be worth it

How much does it cost for a single or double room, with private bathroom??? I’ve never shared a room with anyone before so I’m not very into the idea of sharing a room with 2 other people
(1 is ok i guess)

But if it’s too expensive, then I might change my mind lolz
anw, thanks guys!!!

I really would like to live in the dorms, it is something i definitely want to experience. My only concern is the parking situation. I do not plan on having a job and I have heard it is almost impossible to get a parking permit unless you have one. I want a car to drive home and to go out to other parts of la, etc.

all i know is i dont want to be stuck in a building with only transfers. i need a little mix (both freshmen and transfers) going on.

housing rates are based on which type of building you live in and the number of people sharing a room. the type of meal plan (number of meals you receive for the quarter) you choose also affects the cost.

i believe internet and basic cable are standard

I am dorming it.
Internet and cable are included as i must suppose.
Does it include parking?

“all i know is i dont want to be stuck in a building with just transfers. i need a little mix (both freshmen and transfers) going on.”

You’ll be rooming with transfers, only transfers with transfers. However, they mix transfers and freshmens all the same in the dorms. Pretty nice this way because you don’t have to share a room with freshmen, but it’s all inclusive and you’re not separated like a leper colony haha.

^^^
im fully aware of transfers rooming with only transfers. its just that i dont want entire BUILDING to be made up of transfers. 1 yr ago i had a friend who was put into Delta Terrace and he said it was COMPLETELY transfers

Krnnoodles.
I dont think that they are gonna cram all the transfers in 1 building.
Sounds like a big effort for the housing office.

its happened… i think it has to do with the freshmen getting first dibs

Loopinc, its funny you asked about parking cause UCLA is SH1T for parking. It costs so much for a parking space that its not even worth it when you are in the dorms.

Dang, i was under the impression, that free parking is the prime advantage for on campus over off campus.
Phuk,

what about living in a university apartment? that offers much more privacy (especially if you can get your own room). anybody got any info about the apartments they could share?

Beggars cannot be choosers.
They will offer us the left over housing arrangements, and we will have to be happy with that.
