I’ve always been curious to know why most colleges prefer the online system of sending applications. Besides the economical advantages, do they read our applications and make their judgements from the click of the computer? I guess my question is - how do admissions officers read our applications?

i remember the Columbia admissions officer telling me that they scan everything they receive into a computer, thus prefering the online app. This is probably true for most other colleges too, and cuz ur handwriting might suck like mine does

Online apps usually say that they cut off anything beyond the set limits for essays and short answers. I don't know how true that is. My essay for the common app is like 640 words and the limit is supposed to be 500. And there's no way for me to shorten the essay anymore.

With paper, it is possible to add more pages to the essays or change the font and size to make the essay fit. However, it is tedious to fill out the forms and my handwriting sucks.
