online applications broad questions

I don't know how online apps go, but do you have to type in you essays into a text box already on the website? OR can you just add each essay as an attachment from MICROSOFT WORD?

If You Send it the DAY of deadline, can the school still read it? or does it need to be before deadline? (since it gets there instantly, i figured you can send it the day of deadline- not that i would do that)

Do most colleges prefer this over paper? and if so, would I have a better chance in being admitted if i applied online?

thank you

i would have thought paper applications were the better, but this is coming from someone who is computer illiterate and opposes orthodoxy....

I've also thought about this. Would schools look at handwriting as a overall application factor?

Technology is beginning to take over the application process - some schools actually REQUIRE on-line applications - no more paper - and for other school - the on-line app may be free too. Better check with every school you intend to apply to as to their preferences.

i'm not a fun of technology so I'm gonna make my applications the old way:paper. I've got a very matured handwriting, which perharps explains my leanings towards paper

I'm just afraid that online application would give adcom an indication of an unpersonal application.

I kinda rather do online application because my handwriting isn't the best.

Again - you may find that on-line apps are required tho - some schools even require use of the Common App as well. Check the preference of each school that you intend to apply to.

for some of the colleges i looked at, they recommend the on-line apps sooo it would be great if someone could answer or even try to address the other questions i posted ^up there ^ it would be greatly appreciated

I don't know how online apps go, but do you have to type in you essays into a text box already on the website? OR can you just add each essay as an attachment from MICROSOFT WORD?

Different colleges have different methods of doing this. Some have you attach a Word document, while others have you type in the box. You'll have to look at each individual application.

If You Send it the DAY of deadline, can the school still read it? or does it need to be before deadline? (since it gets there instantly, i figured you can send it the day of deadline- not that i would do that)
It would be best, of course, to send it before the deadline, but yes, you can submit it the day of the deadline.

Do most colleges prefer this over paper? and if so, would I have a better chance in being admitted if i applied online?
Most colleges are neutral or prefer online. I have yet to see an admissions office state that it prefers handwritten. However, I'm pretty sure you won't have better chances of admission if you apply online.

For online apps or rec letters, prepare the essays, recommendations, etc. in MS Word or some other word processor that has spell check and grammar check capabilities. Then, copy and paste into the online application.

I do this with online nominations/recommendations.

NEVER WAIT UNTIL DEADLINE DAY TO SUBMIT ANYTHING ONLINE !!!

You never know when a school's server might go down because of system overload and too many last minute application submissions.

Online applications are probably more efficient and economical, because they can be forwarded to multiple adcom reviewers, and printed only when necessary.

Of course go online. What, you WANT to kill trees?

Well do you?

And you save 39 cents in stamps.. @_@

Personally, I like filling things out on paper. It's a strange and rather unnecessary habit.

And another reason for never submitting things at the last minute online is because many colleges log the time at which you submit. If it's several minutes before the deadline, adcom might count it against you.

Adcoms have WAY too much to do to analyze what time each app was submitted. As long as you make the deadline, no one will take "points off" for cutting it close. Don't deliberately put off submitting until the last day, but if you find yourself there, it's no big deal.

Yeah, I submitted my Common App and supp 45 MINS before the deadline of Jan 1, 2006. Guess what? I'm in! I tracked my apps for several days later and noticed that colleges would wait and download applications in batches, like, once every few days, so it won't matter much when you send it, as long as you do make the deadline. I have friends who even missed the deadline by several days or several weeks in extreme cases, and they got in just the same. That said, get things done as early as you can, but if you can't, don't fret over it. Adcoms have WAY too much to do to care about trivia like that.
