online courses at coursera or edx

As a high school student in Italy I haven’t had the opportunity to take ap classes. So these online courses help me to improve myself but do they help my application? Do online courses make a difference in my application? I’m currently taking learning how to learn ( university of san Diego). I’ll start soon a writing course ( Berkeley) and a physics course ( MIT). Is it worth it to pay for a verified certificate? Or colleges do not take into account these courses?

I am interested in knowing more about this as well.

@AnEpicIndian‌ try have a look at coursera.org or edx.org .
There are a variety of courses and you can earn a verified certificate by paying a small amount of money… but I’m not sure if top universities take into account these courses for the admission process…

This may not apply, as it was not for admissions, but I have come across a situation like this.

I asked if taking a Comp. Sci. source at Edx along with the verified certificate would allow me to take a class in which some experience was require. I was told by the department that the school doesn’t take into account certifications from online programs they are not officially affiliated with.

Now, it may vary from school to school, but I would email admissions and ask them. At my school, they did not accept online certification as proof of coursework, but maybe some places (such as the school which the Edx course is offered from) may allow exceptions.
