Would a verified certificate from Edx be helpful in college admissions?

I recently found out about EdX, and found a course of my interest. I’d like to pursue it during the summer (the verified certificate) but I’m not sure whether it will be beneficial for my college profile? I’m hoping to apply to top-tier universities so will having a verified certificate from EdX (MITx) be a plus point? Or just another factor that won’t be taken into account?

No.

Remember, just completing an EdX course means next to nothing, unless you apply it somehow. Applications could include using the course as self-study to then take an AP exam, or something like that.

I think it would be used as “shows academic interest” but would also try to do other things like work this summer.

@bzhang42 AP exams aren’t really offered in my country, so I’m not sure i’ll be able to apply it as i’m doing my A levels.
@bopper I’m doing 2 paid internships this summer as well, related to my major. So do you think doing a course related to my major would also be beneficial?

Self studying for an AP exam is about as meaningful in the college admissions process as an Edx certificate. In other words, not at all.

@skieurope Okay, thank you!
