hi,

I had a question about taking an online university course and its relation to gpa. Im planning to take one of these university courses, and am hoping that it will increase my gpa.

However, I thought that I just needed to talk to my high school counselor and get him to add it to my transcript and up my gpa. But, I have received some news that says this course would appear on my transcript, but would not affect my high school gpa. The colleges(UC's) im applying to would have to include it on their own and re-calculate when they see my gpa. Is this true, does anyone have any input, prior experience?....

greatly appreciated!!

I know that in my county, any university course, whether in class or online, is counted towards high school gpa and hpa. It is usually given an AP weight. Say your school gives you 4 points for regular, 4.5 points for honors, and 5 points for AP. The university course would be worth 5 points, like an AP. The class should count on your transcript and your gpa, but you should talk to your counselor to make sure that it can or can not be counted towards you gpa. If not, I guess you will have to give the colleges your university transcript so they can count it.

thanks! ^, I talked to my previously counseler and he told me that he can add it to my transcript, but it would not affect my gpa in any way… so Im kinda confused, because from what ur saying, it should change my actual HS GPA, the colleges should not have to calculate it. ill inquire more, but anyone else!!! help
