Online courses. Help!!!

I'm looking to take Math 235 (calculus I) online this summer but I have no idea what colleges are good or not.
I've checked some community colleges and have had no luck. So if anyone has taken this class somewhere online or has had good luck with an online class please let me know!

Thanks (:

I’m interested in a similar class as well (Multi-variable calculus and linear algebra). Is there a good online course?

How about MIT’s Open course ware??

It’s less about the schools and more about the particular professor teaching it - some are great with online courses and web tools, while others have no idea what they’re doing or are generally bad instructors. You can try ratemyprofessor.com and other similar sites to see if a professor you’re considering is generally good or not, and see if anyone mentions having taken a course with them online.

What is also very important is whether your professor is available to chat with you via e-mail, phone, or in-person at his/her office if you have questions, because if not, you might find yourself in a tough spot if you don’t understand something. You might find this out by e-mailing a prof you’re considering taking the class with and ask how they are with office hours/appointments for online students. I had a prof who taught an online course while she was staying in Florida (the school the course was through is in Pennsylvania, so she wasn’t exactly accessible in-person), and she ignored e-mails and did not provide a phone number. We were completely on our own to do the reading assignments she had posted on the calendar and then take the tests at school (which they then mailed to her for grading). I had other profs who were excellent and kept in contact with everyone everyday.

If you e-mail a potential instructor and they don’t respond, or take a week or two to respond, that’s probably a bad sign (unless they happen to be on sabbatical at the moment or some other excusable reason). If they respond right away with a helpful response that says, “Yes, you can certainly make appointments when needed,” then you know they probably have a good teaching style.
