Online Courses

Hi everybody,

This is quite a complicated story, therefore I'll try to be as clear as possible.
I was, in Fall 2009, enrolled in a college in Milwaukee, WI on a soccer scholarship.
Unfortunately, I decided not to return there and completed only one semester.
Now that I'm in France, I feel like this was a huge mistake and I would like to return to America. I already have a few colleges interested in me for being part of their soccer team for Fall 2011 (scholarship is essential to me).
My problem is that I need 24 credits in order to transfer. I'm in law school, here in France, but most of the credits won't transfer and I won't meet the requirements.
This is why I was thinking about taking online courses. I need 12 credits. Probably less but since I'm not too sure about my French credits so I prefer not to be too reckless.

Here is my question. Where could I find CHEAP (this is crucial) online courses that are open to international students? I'm very interested into online courses from community colleges, I read on several websites that they were really cheap. Also, these credits obviously have to be transferable at a college level...
Also, I know I'm really late on the process, this is why open registrations would be awesome.

Thanks a lot for reading,
Max

Did you check that the universities you want to transfer to accept online credits? Some four-year universities don’t.

If the schools would not let you apply as a transfer student because you have too few credits, can you apply for freshman admission? That’s often much more advantageous scholarship-wise anyway.

I already thought about it but it’s not possible because I play soccer. Therefore, I wouldn’t be eligible for it (since I already played one season of intercollegiate sport), and wouldn’t get a scholarship as advantageous as it could be.

I found something about CLEP, has someone ever done it? That sounds interesting… And cheap! For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, here is the link: [About the College Level Examination Program (CLEP)](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>Earn College Credit with CLEP – CLEP | College Board)

Each college/university sets its own policy about awarding credit for CLEP exams. You can take all the exams you want, but you won’t get credit for anything until you are actually enrolled. This won’t do what you want it to do.

If you are enrolled full-time at your current university, you will almost certainly have a full year of college credits by the time you would enroll at a new place. Don’t worry about whether or not each individual course will transfer. Again, that is something that each college decides for itself and you won’t find out which courses transfer as what until after you are there. The important thing is that you will have proof that you have completed a year of college. That is what the colleges you will apply to are looking for.

If you still feel that you MUST take online coursework, be certain that the courses you take are through a regionally-accredited college or university. Does your old university offer any online classes? That might be the best place to start. You also could read through the Online Degree Forum for more ideas.
Good luck!
