I’m looking to apply to an online graduate civil engineering degree program and was wondering what my chances are of getting admitted to graduate school at USC Viterbi School of Engineering. I graduated with an overall GPA of 3.24 and an upper division GPA of 3.35. I currently work for a large geotechnical engineering and testing firm. My job requires me to travel 80% of the time so an online degree is perfect for me. I do not do any design work but I inspect plants that produce structural concrete products. I have ample working experience, as an undergrad I completed 4 engineering internships - two were in construction, one was with the federal government, and one was doing structural engineering research. I assume USC has the same admission standards regardless of applying to an online masters program.
I am also considering applying to Auburn, North Carolina State, and University of Illinois since they all have online graduate civil engineering programs but USC appeals to me since it has a high student engagement score and the University carries a lot of weight. Illinois also appeals to me but it would be hard to get accepted since its one of the top graduate schools for structural engineering. I still have to take the GRE but I plan on studying rigorously for the exam in order to get a good score.
I know my GPA isnt exemplary but its not bad either and my experience and current job should also carry a lot of weight. Do you all think I have a good chance of getting accepted at USC or any of the other schools I mentioned?
