I am a high school student and I want to take online AP courses (AP Calculus BC, AP Comparative Government and Politics, AP European History, AP Psychology, AP Computer Science A). Does anybody know a good place to take these? I go to a small school in the middle of the Central Valley, so I have few resources readily available to me.

Do you have effective time management skills?

If so, then I recommend Keystone.

I have a very busy schedule what with sports and rigorous AP classes, but I do think I would have time to slip in a couple more online classes. Is Keystone accredited or recognized by colleges? And is it expensive?

Yes, it’s accredited. They offer a diploma option, but if your sole intent is to take a few classes, then you can opt to enroll in their independent program, which enables you to enroll in a certain amount of classes, while also being able to join their clubs. You can browse the above website for more information oriented around costs and course offerings.

Thank you very much, I will look into it.

Do you know of any other websites? Keystone does not have AP Calc BC as far as I can determine, and the costs may be a little higher than my parents might be willing to pay.

Well, there’s also FLVS, but it’s more expensive than Keystone. I believe that they offer that class though.

There are some online websites oriented around California students (that are free), but I’m not sure if you can just enroll in them part-time.

I did a significant amount of research before enrolling at Keystone as a full-time student. It seemed like the cheapest option (aside from the state-funded California schools), so I don’t know if you’ll be able to find a less expensive school that’s accredited.

Have you considered self-studying any of those courses or possibly working part-time?

Do you think you could give me the links to some of the state-funded schools? I am applying mostly out-of-state though, so I don’t know if that would be a good idea I guess.

And how do you self-study? My counselor does not tell me any of this information, as my school is so small and uncompetitive. Could you give me advice on how to do that?

The state-funded schools are accredited, so I don’t believe that that would be an issue.

Self-studying is essentially studying a course by yourself without having a teacher guide you through the class. Students who opt to self-study a course typically obtain review books oriented around the AP exam, and study those throughout the year. There are an array of free resources online that could also assist you in doing this. You would need to be committed though.

I will definitely check these out. Thank you very much!

Last year I took Intro to Comp Science with Keystone and this year I’m doing AP Stat with K12. My experience with keystone was…awful. Maybe it was dumb since I have never had prior experience with computer science so learning it online was really hard, but the course itself did an awful job with teaching concepts that were foreign to me. Though, another kid was taking A.P. Comp Science with keystone with prior background and found it very easy and got a 5.

This year with K12 I have found it much better. Everything is explained so well. Though, if you have taken any math class you have prior knowledge of statistics so maybe it is because I have prior knowledge that the class is easy.
