Online Math Class, Art of Problem Solving

I am wondering how the online math classes offered by Art of Problem Solving are-- has anyone taken any of these? I am thinking of them for my 8th grade son, who has just finished his Math Counts work, and wants more exposure to that type of problem solving (he's taking the AMC 10 later in the month). Are these valuable classes? How about the Number Theory class?

Online Math Classes

I'm sure you'll get more responses about this...the classes are excellent. The books that go along with the classes are some of the bast math books I've seen. I think Intro to Number Theory would be just fine for your 8th grader. With his background, he should have no trouble witih it. If he hasn't done algebra yet, I would also consider doing algebra through AoPS, rather than through his school. Unless his school has an unusually good math department, I'd think the AoPS course would be much better than a typical middle school/high school algebra course.

My son takes classes at AoPS. Very good, quite difficult. I think there is no way of really finding out what the classes are like until you try them. The next one in the Intro series is Number Theory - starts this coming Thursday I believe. Once you sign up for classes, you get access to weekly problems posted online, for class participants. Each class usually has two challenge assignments, that the student does at home and then they are evaluated by an instructor. Each class has Are you ready/Do you need it problems posted. Have your son do those and make your decision. Make sure you purchase a book and solutions manual that goes with each course.
