online math lessons for middle school

Did any of you take online math lessons in middle school which purported to provide greater depth to your knowledge of, say, algebra?

Years ago I thought there was a math online program called AIMS. However, I could be mistaken, because when I googled it, I couldn't find it. Other things came up, but not an online program of lessons. I think there was like a $50 charge or something to sign up for a class.

does any of this sound familiar? I now have a friend whose son is in 5th grade, divorced parents, dad not around, mom can't teach or help with math. Her son is smart, just disadvantaged this way.

Any ideas? I found out about Khan Academy (for science) when some highschoolers happened to mention it on here while I was browsing for my own then-highschooler, so I hope one of you can give me some suggestions for ways to beef up my friend's son's education at home.

Thanks!

bump…

You can sign up for distance learning classes on EPGY, they actually have homework and tests and give you a grade.

Khan academy is great for math, also ixl.com.

Art of Problem Solving is great resource for online classes.

I know Stanford EPGY is very good for advanced students. And you can get credit. Khan Academy is also a great resource but you won’t get credit for it. Just look around college’s websites for distance learning opportunities, see what’s best for you.

That’s it!! It was the Art of Problem Solving! I used to get their emails. Many thanks.

I’m glad I asked this question, I found out some other sites.

Thanks so much!
