Online Schooling With College Courses & NCAA

My son is currently enrolled in an online high school program where he will be able to take college courses next year. (I'm not talking about AP classes but actual college classes). I can't find information on how the NCAA handles this. In two 1/2 years my son graduates from high school and would like to play tennis for a div 1 college. At that time he can have two years of college done through the online program (assuming he keeps up his academic grades of course). Does anyone know if that somehow bypasses the NCAA rules regarding freshmen athletes? I'm asking because I live in NY and which is the only state that requires an online high schooled student to take a GED exam in order to get his high school diploma, even if that student holds a diploma from an accredited online high school. I've spoken with the people at the NCAA and they said they would need for my son to get the GED because of NY state's requirements. However, if I moved out of NYS then there is no such requirement.
