According to today’s Wall Street Journal, of the 1,200 students on Penn’s waitlist for the class of 2009 only 10 were taken, compared to 30 of 1,100 on the wait list last year.

Can you post a link to the article?

that looks good for penn.

Here's the link:http://online.wsj.com/public/page/0,,1_0029,00.html?mod=1%255F0028
it is at the bottom of the page under "Careers" but you have to be subscriber to get the article. Yale, Princeton and Johns Hopkins took none from the wait list

Thanks a lot!

is that overall? or just like, CAS?

Overall+++

Overall, I believe. Less than 1% acceptance rate :P

yeah that's pretty crazy
my friend got off the waitlist for wharton =) &
a guy at my school was the one of 20 off the harvard waitlist. ooo.

In reality they accepted a lot more, only 10 are matriculating

They usually get 100% (or near it) yield on WLs since they contact you prior to admission to make sure you'll matriculate.

1) they don't contact every student and 2) a few of the kids remain optimistic despite the harsh reality of their financial aid statements that come with the acceptance.

I'm pretty sure about this, I have a buddy who works in admission

I'd rather you have more evidence than your "buddy who works in admission."

they called me to make sure that i wanted to go there before they took me off the waitlist for Wharton (i asked my regional director about that after I got in and she said they call people before they let them in off the waitlist)

wow...my friend was on that list.

and she made it!

yeah as a poster said above, these stats are skewed because a friend of mine who is def middle of the road got off the waitlist at JHU but by that time and due to them giving him no money he just opted to go elsewhere

wow! 10? And I was one of em, sweet! Damn that makes me feel special haha.

Yeah, like prud said, someone called me to ask to see if I would come to Penn if they took me off the waitlist. My answer was somewhere along the lines of "OMG YES OIJASODNALKJN DLKJA N!%#UEPJ@P!!!!1one!"

oh, the thing is, someone said that the fact that they ask if youll matriculate implies a 100% yield. Not necessarily. I was already enrolled elsewhere, so I could've theoretically turned down Penn's acceptance. Luckily I didn't
