Only for athletes/ artists?

Hi! I really like Conn college but at a small school I’m nervous about finding a niche. I am not a varsity athlete or an artists. I hope to join the club equestrian team, but other than that I don’t know what there is for me. Is it possible to still have fun and make friends without being in a musical group or varsity sport?

Conn has non-varsity club team sports options.

My impression from visiting was of an extremely convivial atmosphere with very down to earth, open students.

Any club you feel is missing, you could start. Conn prides itself on student initiative, as evidenced by (among other things) their Honor Code. Cooperation is key to their style.

Picture yourself riding your horse through 750 acres of arboretum or on their private island. (I know you can walk it. Check about your equine.)

Student body seems a nice blend of types, with social opportunities in the spectacularly beautiful gym complex, the “Cro,” library, library coffee shop, Harris dining, arboretum–and in this day, online introductions leading to face to face. (I’ve heard of Tinder being used that way.)

Conn is not a cut-throat atmosphere at all. It would be hard to imagine a friendlier school at such a respectable level of academics.

As a student at Conn, I can say that friendships and social groups don’t just revolve around what sport or arts group you’re in. Most of my friends became my friends because we have common interests, and I met different people through the dorm I lived in freshman year. For example, I made many of my current close friends through Women’s Empowerment Initiative because we’re all interested in feminism and these sorts of issues. You may also be friends with people in your major or with people who live on your hall freshman year. Everyone has a different way of making friends, you definitely don’t have to be on a sports team or anything like that to have a niche!
