Only in the South...

Kebree, I'm sorry you have to deal with this kind of stuff...

<a href="http://www.cnn.com/2004/EDUCATION/12/22/confederate.prom.dress.ap/index.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.cnn.com/2004/EDUCATION/12/22/confederate.prom.dress.ap/index.html</a></p>

Free Speech

I really hope she doesn't win the lawsuit.

I do... if you can wear a black panthers t-shirt, a che guevera t shirt, gay pride, jesus t-shirts, or peta gear to school you should be able to wear a friggin confederate flag. now you may say slavery, but like 90% of the people who fought in the war didn't own slaves... if you great-grandfather died in the civil war on the confederate side i'm sure you'd want to wear something like that too. And another thing I'm sure if she wore hte stars and bars she wouldn't have faced this cause no one knows what that is. Its just wack ass freak out people who don't like stuff like this go down

Its not the flag itself that bothers me the most. Its the fact that she wants 50 grand over it that makes me wonder about the state of affairs in this country. I'm sorry, but getting booted from your prom with prior warning does not warrant that kind of imbursement. And even if I did have an Confederate ancestor who died in the war, I would be smart enough not to test school officials over it, especially if its prom.

"Duty, now a college student, said school officials told her before the prom not to wear the dress, but she didn't have another one and decided to see if administrators would change their minds."

I don't know about her district, but the administrations in our district are just downright brutal in terms of strictness. None of them would "change their minds."

Most schools have dress codes that ban possibly questionable or offensive attire. I mean, I'm pretty sure that I can't just walk into school with some racist saying on my shirt and claim that the message it sends is part of my culture or background. Also, I agree that it's absurd that she wants 50 grand over it.

The Man needs to be taught a lesson

Haha...in my own town and I didn't even know about it....ah, well. I usually just go through the national & international political news so I miss the important things like this.

It seems like there is a lawsuit every week about some kid wanting to wear a certain thing.....I wonder if the ACLU will defend this one, lol.

^^ Hence, people scoring a 1450 today probably did not have to get as many right. The curve was probably more lenient

The confederacy was nothing more than a rebellion based on the idea that slavery should have been maintained. I hate the confederate flag.

It stands for all of the old, racist ways (Jim Crow and such) of the south, and a few rednecks are still trying to prolong its legacy by using the perverse excuse that the flag is a positive part of their southern heritage. When the confederates tried to break away they made a new flag. They lost to the North. The confederates were traitors to our country.

Also Faux:

You say that 90% of the soldiers didn't own slaves...this didn't matter because if you study the civil war and the pre-civil war south, you will find that even though most didn't own slaves, those southerners still wanted to keep slavery around because most southerners hoped that one day they could get a slave for themselves. Read that history book for AP US History "Enduring Vision". That is what it says

Holler for Enduring Vision! American Pageant isn't that great... Sorry if I offended anyone.

isnt this a really old topic? sr6622.... u revived the dead! U MUST PAY FOR YOU NECROMANCY WITH YOUR SOUL!!!!!

Gladly......:)
