Which school would u attend? BU or Rutgers?

i got into both BU School of Management and Rutgers College in New Brunswick, NJ. Right now I'm having a tough time deciding between the two so I thought I'd look to my fellow CCers for their always valued opinion. here are some things i've noted about each.

BU
pretty good business program, well-known
in the city
outside of stinkin new jersey (obviously)
cost--44k a year with no aid/scholarships

Rutgers (in-state for me)
Recognized business program
Located in New Brunswick
Value school
16k a year

the question remains which one is worth it? is it worth getting into all that debt with BU and will i be able to get a good job after graduating to pay it all of? or should i stick with Rutgers, a not so prestigious, but decent low-cost college? please reply. i value ur opinion.

Have you visited BU?

I haven't been to BU but have lived in NJ most of my life and have friends whose kids go to Rutgers. I can't compare the two schools. But I think that to be happy and successful at Rutgers, you have to be flexible as the campus is spread out and there won't be much hand holding there. If you're staying in NJ for good, go with Rutgers. If you're thinking of venturing outside of NJ, go with BU. I don't think it makes sense to have that debt if you are coming back to NJ anyway b/c Rutgers I believe has just as good a reputation here.

i think theres no question that BU is a better school.. your problem seems to be financial. If BU thought you had enough money that you dont need fin aid, then you probably do. Talk to your parents about how much they are willing to pay. If you can graduate from BU with less than 10k in debt, its worth it, if not, go to rutgers.

BU is a "better" school in teh sense that youll have a better college experience of a city and a campus and probably better and smaller classes... but it wont significantly raise your job prospects after graduation. Dont decide based on which will get you a better job. If your going into a field where you wont be able to pay off 10k in debt easily (i.e. education, social policy, immediately want to go to grad school) than finance is important to consider, so go to rutgers. If your sure you want to be a businessman, the debt wont matter, go to BU.

actually i wanna focus on finance as my major in college. but the fact that my EFC is only 17k and the cost of attendance at BU is 43k just doesnt add up when they dont give me any need based aid. I'm almost positive I'm going to have more debt than 10k. oh and i have visited BU and i was pretty pleased. the SMG building was nice and I liked the college town feeling. I'm not too big on a campus anyways and i'm just plain tired of seeing trees and grass all over.
