Hello, I am a rising senior and taking Honors Pre Calc next year. Since 9th grade, I have taken mostly all honors (expect math) and several AP’s. Overall I have a 4.12 but my poor performance in math has always eaten me up. All my friends (well, most) are either in Calc or AP Calc and always look down on me. Thing is, I am interested in pharmacy/dentistry will I not stand a chance since since I won’t take Calc for senior year? Please help thanks.
You’ll be fine. Calculus is a college level course. You won’t be alone taking it for the first time in college.
You’ve said that everything else is strong. That’s fine. You’ll do well. Your pre-calculus class is honors, if that makes you feel any better. Don’t stress yourself out. This is a very minor problem in the whole scheme of college admissions. It certainly won’t diminish your chances. Good luck
With no information from you about your target schools, all we can say us that some colleges are ok with just precalc.
But you’re saying you’ve always had trouble with math. Are you aware how important math skills are for studying and practicing pharmacy? And how difficult some schools make math and science courses for students aiming at professional health careers? Make sure you’re choosing target colleges wisely.
Not poor per se but I took Algebra 1 as a freshman and although I maintained good grades throughout the years, I never really took honors math until Algebra 2 in 11th. I feel behind compared to other kids.
All engineering schools have their curriculum designed such that you start with Calculus 1. For Pharm/Dentistry you will have to take Calculus but once again, it is assumed that you start with Calc 1 in college. Make sure you go to office hours and get a tutor if you struggle in calculus.
You are not behind, they are ahead. You are on track.
